About this job

To direct and control the operation of the Wine/Beer Department. Orders merchandise. Ensures customer service and product quality and selection.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains and encourages an atmosphere of fast, friendly, courteous customer service. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.

Orders, receives, checks and controls inventory to ensure adequate quantity and quality. Maintains an awareness of seasonal and promotional merchandising and plans orders accordingly. Interprets reports, completes necessary paperwork, follows company transmittal procedures.

Responsible for cost and quality control. Prevents shrink. Ensures compliance with product handling, stocking, display and signing procedures. Encourages and maintains a safe work environment. Ensures the proper sanitation and visual appeal of the department.

Ensures compliance with liquor sales laws. Monitors backroom inventory and space security. Uses related equipment including; box cutters, compactors, hand trucks and pallet jacks.

Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Requires good communication skills, good leadership and interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers.

Requires analytical ability to handle administrative details such as planning orders, sales projections.

Requires a good understanding of overall company practices and Beer/Wine Department procedures acquired through previous experience in the Beer/Wine Department.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 55 lbs. within the range of floor level to overhead. Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.

Ability to stand, walk and move rapidly for long periods of time, and bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary. Must be able to operate related equipment including: box cutters, compactors, hand trucks, pallet jacks, and checkstand equipment.

Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe, accurate completion of work activities and to do repetitious work accurately. Must have knowledge of types, nomenclature, alcohol content, uses and care of liquor department products. Requires an awareness of popular drink recipes. Requires knowledge of basic math and metric measurements.

Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment, tools and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Occasional exposure to 35-40 degrees Fahrenheit while handling products in cooler and while performing receiving duties.
