Position Summary: Provides patient care under the supervision of licensed staff, ChargeNurse, Clinical Manager, Unit Manager or Director of Nursing. Organizes and promotes efficient workflowwithin the unit. Acts as a communicationliaison by greeting all internal and external customers to proactively meetservice requests and to promote positive customer relations.

Requirements/ Qualifications: High school diploma or GEDrequired.

Effective September 1, 2017, current BLSthrough the American Heart Association, or a previously approved provider, willbe required before employment.

Requires certification from an approved nursingassistant course, previous experience as a nurse assistant, or one completedsemester of healthcare related clinical experience. Prefer one year of secretarial experience andprevious exposure to medical terminology. Be proficient in keyboarding and possess good Windows platform computerskills. Maintains designated hospitalcompetencies validated by the Competency Based Orientation (CBO) plan. Demonstrates a strong belief and behaviorsconsistent with the Saint Joseph HealthCare Mission and Core Values (Reverence,Integrity, Compassion and Excellence).

Adequate conversational English is required inorder that the individual be able to take direction from management, understandhow to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workersas necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand theAssociate Handbook and all hospital policies.

Working Relationships: Reports to the manager and isresponsible to the LPN or RN for delegated assignments. Daily contact is with co-workers, managers,social services, medical staff, students, clergy, patients, families, visitors,volunteers and the general public. Mayhave contact with members of the Health Care Delivery team such as students,medical staff, physical therapy, respiratory, etc. as well as medicalrepresentatives, interns, externs, insurance agents, representatives oflicensing/regulatory boards and physician offices.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

Physical coordination, mobility, verbalarticulation, vision, and learning must be easily performed. May be exposed to blood, body tissues andfluids regularly, as well as other hazardous waste materials. Must be able to tolerate environmentaltemperature fluctuations. May be exposedto radiation, toxins, dust, cytotoxins, and/or poisonous substances. May be exposed, periodically, to physicalinjury, burns, noise, and some electrical hazards.

Must work in a variety of situations and adhere toHospital policies in accordance with safety requirements, including standardand transmission based infection control and environmental precautions. Must function appropriately in emergencysituations. Must deal appropriately withaggressive personalities through the use of effective communication and, asneeded, use of the chain of command. Must also be able to walk, standextensively, bend, stoop, squat, visually discriminate close objects, hear anddistinguish normal sounds.

Must be able to perform a variety of tasks understressful conditions with frequent interruptions. Has the ability to concentrate, setpriorities and make decisions while responding to changes in the workenvironment in a timely manner. Demonstrates emotional stability when dealing with difficult situationsand deals effectively with grief, loss and death.
