About this job
1. The Journeyman I&E Mechanic has a primary responsibility to support the Production Department through the maintenance, repair, and installation of property and equipment.
2. Although specialty tools are provided by the company, the Journeyman I&E Mechanic is expected to have a personal set of tools to practice their craft. Tools should include pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and a hacksaw.
3. The incumbent is responsible for staying current with training and proficient at the trade.
4. The maintenance of this job description is a responsibility of both the Engineering / Maintenance Department and Human Resources Department.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF WORK
The incumbent may be required to work alone, with another associate, or in a group as the need arises. A Journeyman I&E Mechanic will be required to plan, assign work, and may be required to check the work of other personnel within the same or similar job classifications. The conditions in which a Journeyman I&E Mechanic may be required to work, at times may be hazardous, working around high voltage energy sources, subjected to loud noise, extreme temperatures, and the possibility of being exposed to chemicals. When these conditions exist, the Journeyman I&E Mechanic is required to wear protective equipment and take appropriate precautions.
BASIC DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
* Reading and interpreting detailed drawings, blueprints, and schematics of electrical and instrument systems.
* Installing, regulating, adjusting, and repairing instrumentation.
* Making sketches, installing and maintaining signal systems, watchman control systems, and remote control systems.
* Soldering copper, making hot splices and connections on high and low voltage systems.
* Testing systems, machines, and other equipment.
* Analyzing and troubleshooting systems.
* Working on power lines, circuits, automatic and remote controls, lighting systems, rheostats, transformers, buss bars, switches, and repairing electrical equipment of various types.
* Maintaining equipment such as potentiometers, pyrometers, orifice flow meters, rotating flow meters, temperature recording/controlling devices, liquid level indicators, pressure reducers, pressure gauges, electronic detection devices, scale mechanisms, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
* Performing calibration and loop checks on instruments and documenting as needed.
* Installing and performing alignment on motors, 10 HP or less.
* Providing training and instruction for apprentices; planning, assigning work, and checking the work of other associates within the same or similar job classifications.
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Applicants to this classification complete all training and experience requirements as agreed to under the New York State Apprenticeship Program and/or Journeyman requirements
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
* The Journeyman I&E Mechanic is required to have a high level of technical skill, knowledge, and analytical ability to troubleshoot systems in support of plant operations.
* Performance requirements include the ability to read technical manuals, record data, interpret written directions, and perform trouble-shooting on process equipment. Regular attendance, safe work practices, and proficiency are expected.
