Description
The Corporate Food Safety and Sanitation Specialist is responsible for reinforcing a culture of cleanliness. In addition, this person oversees our food safety and sanitation strategies and programs used in the design and operation of our plants. This person will support Plant QC Managers, Manufacturing Systems Engineers and Scientists, and leaders in their efforts to achieve and maintain standards and practices.

Responsibilities
  • Lead organizational efforts to reduce food safety risk and maintain a clean plant environment
  • Develop and document sanitation standards that reflect best practices for equipment design and manufacturing processes
  • Monitor and further develop metrics to evaluate and improve performance
  • Provide oversight for environmental and phage monitoring processes and clean-in-place practices, including reviews of cleaning sequences
  • Participate in microbiological investigations and foster continuous improvement of sanitation practices by facilitating the corrective action process to remediate deficiencies
  • Provide guidance and mentoring for plant sanitarians
  • Review and audit accuracy of sanitation records, and SSOPs
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to training programs
Organizational Relationships

The Corporate Food Safety and Sanitation Specialist reports to the Director of Innovation and Technical Services and is part of the Technical Services team, which includes Quality Assurance, Regulatory and Compliance, Process Improvement and Research and Development. This individual will also work directly with plant Quality personnel and sanitarians to resolve issues and evaluate system performance and with engineers to review processes for cleanability and validate performance of cleaning sequences.

Schedule and Travel

Frequent travel to our three manufacturing locations is expected.
Qualifications
Education and Training
  • B.S. degree in food science, dairy science or related discipline is required.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree is preferred.
  • 8 years of relevant experience is required, and should include significant time in dairy manufacturing facilities
  • Past experience in quality assurance and food safety
  • SQF Practitioner training

    Skills and Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
  • Experience with creating and administering programs
  • Working knowledge of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance and 3-A Standards
  • Experience with aseptic processing and filling operations
  • Understanding of chemical sanitizers and steam sterilization practices
  • Proficient in writing and presenting
  • Experience working with state health departments and third-party auditors
  • Data analysis, statistical process control, and problem solving
  • Knowledge of microbiological sampling and testing methods
  • History of success implementing sanitation and food safety systems
