Corporate Finance- Firmwide Financial Control -- Academic Internship

Location: Newark, Delaware

The Financial Control function is primarily focused on ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of the Firm's books and records with an emphasis on general ledger, operating systems and infrastructure controls across the entire lifecycle of the business. Some of the most common functions and activities that are owned by Financial Controllers are balance sheet reconciliation / certification, balance sheet substantiation and GLRS reporting & governance, inter-entity control & governance, manual accounting / bookings to the GL and operating systems and the month end close process & coordination.

The Financial Control Academic Intern will work closely with the line of business controllers, middle office and operations areas to understand the operational impact of trading strategies and settlement practices for the businesses globally.

Primary Responsibilities of a Financial Control Analysts will include, but are not limited to:

* Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and validity of line of business general ledger accounts; including adherence to the firmwide General Ledger Reconciliation & Substantiation (GLRS) standards

* Ensure adherence to P&L and Balance Sheet controls owned by Financial Control; including identifying and implementing opportunities for efficiency

* Analysis, communication and resolution of material variances between the general ledger and upstream systems; as defined by line of business

Skills:

* Comfort liaising with business and risk managers

* Ability to build and maintain partnerships within the various product aligned businesses and across other corporate financial, treasury, and accounting groups

* Strong analytical skills

* Ability to quickly understand workings of a complex processing system and general ledger systems across the infrastructure and their interrelationships and dependencies

Key Qualifications:

* Minimum required cumulative GPA of 3.2

* A well-rounded academic background with an interest in the Global Finance & Business Management function

* Pursuing B.A., B.S. or 5th year M.A. or M.S. with an expected graduation date of May 2018, December 2018 or May/June 2019

* Ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative and changing work environment

* Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills

* Basic understanding of financial statements, accounting procedures, internal and external reporting, and variance analysis

* Excel, PowerPoint and Word proficiency

* Leadership experience in school or community organization

* Eligibility to work permanently in the U.S.
