Position Summary

The Transportation Supervisor supports the Manager of Transportation and AVP of Store Transportation Services with all aspects of retail store delivery operations. This role will act as the primary point of contact for Store Transportation Services, store logistics and serve as the liaison among Distribution Services, and Store Operations. This associate will support TJX logistical strategies and deliver merchandise to stores in a cost-efficient manner while meeting or exceeding service standards. Responsibilities also include developing procedures that control our assets, improve work methods and support financial information to and from Home Office.

Key Responsibility Areas

• Ensure store service goals are met or exceeded
• Oversee performance to ensure service levels and operating procedures are met
• Monitors, reports and where necessary takes actions on carrier performance and store delivery schedules
• Collaborates with the Distribution Centers and Store Operations in supporting and integrating new store openings into existing delivery schedules
• Performs cost analysis, strategic planning and budgeting
• Oversees carrier analysis, selection, and negotiations
• Communicates with internal and external teams
• Interfaces with Distribution Centers on deliveries, packaging, damages, store openings and remodels
• Maintains consistent communication with store management and visits stores to receive feedback on schedules, drivers, timing of event merchandise and quality of deliveries
• Ensure all safety standards are maintained in the Ship Centers and with over the road carriers
• Travel is required which may be 25%
• Ensure Inbound freight is received in a timely manner.

Required Experience and Competencies

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related
• A minimum of 2- 4 years’ experience in Logistics
• Experience leading and managing teams
• Knowledge of motor carrier industry
• Understanding of distribution center operations
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Working knowledge of transportation management systems and software (Manugistics, RoutePro)
• Ability to work cross functionally to deliver results

Major Areas of Responsibility

Manages the timely and cost effective movement of goods into the Distribution Centers, stores and shipping centers. Initiates and executes solutions which support an evolving distribution network. Focuses on developing positive working relations with internal and external customers to ensure information flows quickly and efficiently

Supervises scheduling of deliveries to the stores serviced by the facility in conjunction with Merchandising, Distribution Services and Store Operations plans. Notifies stores of deviation to scheduled deliveries on a timely basis. Adjusts schedules to maximize truck utilization while maintaining flow to the stores. Partners with carriers to ensure efficient and courteous service by the drivers to stores and distribution centers.

Plans and communicates the truck capacity requirements and ensures an adequate supply of truck power and trailers. Follows up with receiving/shipping to ensure appropriate number of trailers and containers are loaded and unloaded to minimize detention. Ensures steady flow of inbound and outbound cross-docks, resulting in the timely arrival of merchandise to stores and maximum utilization of lowest cost carriers. Coordinates new store trailer loads and delivery.

Initiates rate negotiations by soliciting bids with carriers regarding outbound services to the stores. Recommends new carriers and yard contracts to ensure the best rates and service possible.

Plans and executes alternative handling and storage requirements for peak periods. Provides cost analyses as requested by the AVP, General Manager and makes recommendations on delivery schedules and frequencies optimizing cube.
