TAMKO Building Products, Inc. is seeking a Forklift Operator at our Frederick, Maryland facility. The forklift Operator drives gasoline, liquefied gas, or electric powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, boom, scoop, lift beam and swivel hook, fork grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch, to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials.

Essential job functions

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Move levers and press pedals to drive truck and control movement of the lifting apparatus
  • Unload and stack material by raising and lowering lifting devices
  • Weigh materials or products and record weight on tags, labels and production schedules
  • Manually load or unload materials on/off pallets, skids and lifting devices
  • Lubricate truck, recharge batteries, fill fuel tank and replace liquefied gas tanks
  • Perform daily pre-operation inspection of forklifts
  • Conduct inventory of goods/materials and supply workers with materials as needed
  • Sweep and clean designated areas in the office and warehouse
  • Transport products to and from remote storage areas
  • Other duties may be assigned

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one and two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to get along with coworkers and supervisors, work with others on a team, accept directions and follow work rules, accept constructive criticism, work with cross-departmental committees to improve processes and to develop and maintain good communications and good working relationships with internal customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to read and respond accurately to process feedback data and make appropriate adjustments as required or directed.

Physical Demands/Work environment

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit for up to 2 hours at a time; use hands to finger, handle and feel; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and 20/30 visual acuity at a distance and at arm s length.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
