Job DescriptionThe Surgical Physician Assistant will:
- Assist surgeons in providing thorough preoperative evaluation of patients scheduled to undergo surgical procedures
- Enter post-operative orders for patients when requested by and under the supervision of the operating surgeon
- Reconcile pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative medications for each patient when requested by and under supervision of the operating surgeon
- Perform post-operative evaluation of inpatients and document such evaluation in the Medical Record, when requested by and under supervision of the operating surgeon
- Assist in nutritional management of post-operative patients, including development and adherence of protocols to advance diets
- Assist surgeons with discharge services
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, medical consultants, case managers, nursing staff, pharmacists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, and physical therapists as an active member of the patient care team
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives related to the Department of Surgery,
- Current license and registration in New York State as Physician Assistant
- Successful completion of the national certification examination given by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Previous experience in an operating room
- Completion of a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and or infection control standards
