Job Description:

3M is seeking an Automated Inspection & Measurement Engineering Intern for the Electronics & Energy Business Group in the Film Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations (FMSCO) organization located in Maplewood, MN for summer 2018. Here, you go!

An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year. 3M provides eligible interns with temporary housing and round-trip travel reimbursement in accordance with current policy.

About FMSCO Automated Inspection & Measurement:

This position is a summer intern assignment with the Automated Inspection and Measurement (AIM) group within the Film Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations Division. This group is responsible for fundamental technology development, application investigations, system integration, technology deployment, and system support across many 3M divisions in the areas of automated inspection, measurement, and process data systems. This person hired for this position will be responsible completing a project in this technology area over the summer. Specifics will depend on the person's experience along with 3M's needs at the time. In addition, the person will support senior AIM engineers as time allows.

Job Summary:

As an Automated Inspection & Measurement Engineering Intern, your primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

* Leads detailed definition, execution, and technology transfer of a project defined by technology leaders within the AIM group. The project will involve FPGA and/or embedded system programming. As time allows, additional projects could include opto-mechanical system design, system integration, programming, and installation of machine vision or automated inspection technology.

* Implements data analysis and optimization using tools including Six Sigma to maximize value.

* Support of other group projects as time allows.

* General laboratory maintenance.

Basic Qualifications:

* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or similar field from an accredited university

Preferred Qualifications:

* Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale

* Completed at minimum your Junior year (6 semesters) by the start of the internship

* Previous experience as a 3M Intern or Technical Aide OR internship with a manufacturing company

Location: Maplewood, MN

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international travel
