Qualifications:

* High School or general education degree (GED) required.

* 1 year healthcare business office/revenue cycle experience

* Prefer 1~2 years previous Call Center experience with heavy patient contact

* Familiar with standard insurance verbiage

* Knowledge of Web and Web based programs

* Typing 40 WPM

* 10 key calculator

* Must be able to operate computer and software systems.

* Ability to read, write, speak and understand English proficiently.

* Strong interpersonal, communication and persuasion/negotiation skills required to effectively interact with patients and third parties.

* Heavy/repetitive computer keyboard and monitor use.

* Heavy telephone/headset use.

* Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented verbally and in writing.

* Consistently exercise critical thinking skills or use logic and reasoning to assess and resolve problems.

* Quickly makes sense of, combines and organizes information.

* Consistently maintain a professional and approachable demeanor.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Description

Addresses and resolves patient inquiries regarding billing, collections, insurance, payment and other issues related to hospital bills. Provides information, responds to questions, identifies appropriate opportunities to collect payment for services that have been provided. Serves as an advocate for the patient and family members when dealing with problem accounts. Provides efficient, courteous and expert customer service to all patients, insurance carriers, doctor offices and all other third parties in relation to hospital account inquiries. Assures that confidentiality/HIPAA guidelines are followed.

Accountabilities:

Resolves telephone inquires pertaining to the billing and collection of hospital bills in a courteous and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA guidelines and Advocate Health Care policies and procedures.

Adheres to established Advocate and SRCO policies, procedures, guidelines and productivity standards.

Responsible for personal and professional growth and development.

Verifies insurance and demographic information given from callers or by mail/fax, determines appropriate insurance code, updates accounts in system and schedules the bill.

Utilizes the various patient accounting systems to review retrieve and updated information as needed.

Responsible for reviewing and researching the accuracy of disputed charges during the course of the phone call.
