SHIPPING SUPERVISOR
Job Title: Shipping Supervisor
Reports To: Shipping Manager
Summary: Coordinate activities of workers concerned with picking product and preparing it for same day shipping.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist shipping manager by identifying work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
Issue written and oral instructions.
Responsible for keeping adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times.
Examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of workers.
Maintain harmony among workers and resolve grievances.
Monitor pickers’ and packers’ productivity.
Assist employees with work process problems.
Qualification/Requirements:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written instruction. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of management.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions, both oral and written.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to perform but not limited to the following taks, be familiar with and able to intercept packing slips, enter into computer the correct information, to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the purchase order and processing database.
Must be able to fill out bill of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by major freight carriers.
Must be capable of estimating weight, and use that information to calculate cost of shipping.
Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
Must be familiar with chop saw. Understanding how to use in a safe & effective manner.
Must be familiar with a tape measure and how to interpret.
Must be familiar with Nail Gun and understand how to use in a safe & effective manner.
Must be familiar with the most common material handling equipment and be a licensed forklift truck operator.
Experience with UPS online software is desirable.
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. One to three months related experience and/or training.
Must be able to become certified and maintain certification through an OSHA approved forklift program.
Language skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Demonstrated ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, departments, customers and vendors.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of thse that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Frequent lifting or with other means for movement of boxes or pans.
