Job Summary:

Provides, delegates and coordinates care of patients for the Gynecologic Oncology Clinic. Accountable to lead, supervise, manage and carry out patient care decisions and care. Accountable for the planning and delivery of patient focused care, in partnership with physician, interdisciplinary team, and patient/family.

Essential Duties:

Provides education, counseling and care to patients and their families including coordinating of care with other facilities such as Infusion Centers, Palliative Care, Hospice and other necessary care clinics.

Obtain and record vital signs and other appropriate information, to include patient history. Performs nursing physical assessments or nursing diagnosis, may include removal of stitches/staples. Assist with diagnostic tests and clinical procedures to appropriate level of training and established procedures.

Screens, communicates and responds to patient needs appropriately within scope of license. Assess patient's records for necessity and urgency for patient to see practitioner. Documents reasoning for decision. Refer to practitioners for appropriate follow up.

Facilitates emergent admission of patients to the hospital floor and facilitates patient flow ensuring enough time for patient and family education.

Responds to patient telephone calls using approved protocols; ensuring documentation of the phone calls meets standards. Under supervision of the practitioner, inform patients of lab results, call in prescriptions to pharmacies and return practitioners' phone messages.

Provide education about pre-operative and chemotherapy to patients and families. Ensure that the patient or family understands follow-up information for chemotherapy and aftercare.

Actively participate and attend in continuing education and meetings as requested. Participants in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations as required.

Provide general health education within own level of expertise and as directed by practitioner and nurse supervisor. Provide assistance for pre-operative/wound care. Documents all procedures and interactions in patient's medical record.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Graduate of accredited school for Registered Nurse approved by the WA State Board of Nursing required. BSN preferred.

Previous experience with oncology/chemotherapy experience preferred.

Within the last two- (2) years, one- (1) year of nursing experience in a Women's Health Care setting experience preferred.

License/Certification:

Current WA State Board of Nursing license, RN required.

Must have a current CPR certification or must be certified within 30 days of hire date.
