Job Summary: The materials manager is responsible for all the supply chain activities in Richmond, including planning, scheduling, purchasing, receiving, shipping, and material handling. The materials manager will make critical decisions that help ensure safety, quality, delivery and cost targets are met.  This position will lead improvement efforts using lean manufacturing tools and techniques.  The materials manager will report directly to the Supply Chain Director and have strong working relationships with site leadership, especially the Director of Operations and the Operations Manufacturing Leader.  This is a unique opportunity for the right individual who enjoys being a hands-on working manager and ensuring the execution of daily tactical work. 

 

Materials Manager Responsibilities:

  • Managing inventory days of supply, customer on time delivery, and supplier performance metrics
  • Engaging directly in purchasing, receiving, shipping activities to ensure production demands are meet
  • Sustaining supplier adherence and conformance to quality procedures. May be involved in the evaluation, and performance management of suppliers
  • Interacting and collaborating with new product development, account management and sales to ensure customer demand and planning are connected with supply chain and ensure successful production ramps, up and down
  • Planning and coordinating physical movement of materials, parts, finished goods, and information to ensure optimization of cost and service level
  • Serving as primary point of accountability for all supply chain processes, issues and opportunities. Following up as required business leaders and teams to expedite flow of materials and documents to meet business
  • Managing manpower needs to meet production demand and capacity requirements.
  • Leading and executing lean supply chain initiatives to improve the overall effectiveness of material flow and/or sustain daily operational effectiveness
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key manufacturers/suppliers/service providers in the process skid fabrication industry

 

Materials Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant supply chain experience
  • Relevant supply chain certification, such as APICS (CPIM, CSCP, CFPIM), ISM (CPM, CPSM, CSM), or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year supply chain project management experience
  • Lean leadership training with demonstrated application  - OR - 1 year lean leadership experience
  • Sufficient industry experience to demonstrate a working knowledge and basic understanding of packaged systems - electrical panels, structural skids, vessels, piping, valves, instrumentation, and cabling
  • Minimum of 7 years of lean leadership experience a plus
  • Minimum 1 year purchasing experience related to UL panels, ASME pressure vessels/piping, structural skids, valves, and I&E materials specifications preferred
  • Technical certificate/education preferred
  • High attention to detail, follow up and attention to customer service.
  • Demonstrated skills at negotiation, conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated skills at collaboration, team building and verbal communication

Compensation: $75,000 - $113,000, DOE
