Facility Description: Free Standing Endoscopy Center operating 2 procedure rooms and performing approximately 500-600 procedures a month. We are open Monday – Saturday. Located in Libertyville, IL.
Accountabilities / Responsibilities
The Gastroenterology Technologist is responsible for the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse. The GI Tech performs duties according to scope of practice designated by the facility position description, role and responsibilities and best practice guidelines established by the gastroenterology professional organization.
- Assists with the preparation of the procedure room for procedures
- Assists with care, preparation, maintenance and after-care of supplies and equipment
- Handles specimens in accordance with facility policy and procedures
- Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area for processing and storage
- Demonstrates understanding of procedure room technical equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines, policy and procedures
- Assists with stocking, replenishing and preparation of supplies
- Follows post-operative cleaning procedure, preoperative cleaning procedure and rearranges furniture to meet needs of following procedure as directed by a circulating nurse.
- Performs necessary checks on endoscopes and other equipment including leak testing of endoscopes and records in log as directed.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers sponsored by the American Heart Association.
- Six months experience in GI lab preferred
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate ability with computers (Provation, Endoworks, Excel)
- High attention to detail
