The RN's primary responsibilities will include - but may not be limited to:

* Will assess, plan, implement and evaluate the perioperative and post-operative care for Bariatric patients.

* Utilizes telephone interviewing skills and critical thinking skills in assessing patient symptoms, and changes to determine appropriate education and support. Pre-surgical and procedural patient education is performed in person and via telephone.

* Schedules surgeries as needed; coordinates care with Radiology, Surgery both outpatient and inpatient setting, reviewing all new referrals in timely manner, and Case Management of complex surgical procedures.

* Takes the lead in management of post-op symptoms and complication; in management of each symptom, a plan of action is suggested to either the surgeon or in his/her absence the on call or available surgeon, based on history, assessment, and review of available records. Works with patient, RN case managers, and social workers around discharge planning needs.

* Will work collaboratively with the providers, surgery scheduler, and nursing flow staff.

* Familiarity with normal wound healing patterns and provides post-op care and wound care.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum: Graduate of accredited RN program

Preferred: BSN preferred

Experience:

Minimum: 1 year RN experience in med/surg; surgical unit or general surgery clinic.

2-4 years of medical surgical experience

Preferred: Outpatient experience and prior surgical experience preferred.

2 year Bariatrics experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

* Demonstrated effective, independent nursing judgment and skills.

* Demonstrated skill and experience in effectively collaborating with care team members, using a high level of expertise in written, oral and interpersonal communication.

* Must demonstrate an exceptional level of easily understood verbal communication on the phone, in person and in writing.

* Intermediate computer and keyboarding skills in a Windows based environment.

* Sufficient computer and keyboarding speed and accuracy to maintain service and productivity standards.

* Excellent communication and customer service skills.

* Demonstrates caring, courtesy and concern and sensitivity in all consumer interactions. Provide culturally sensitive care including consideration for ethnicity, language, life style, and healthcare beliefs.

Licenses/Certifications

* Minimum: Washington State Registered Nurse License.

* Preferred: Certified in Bariatric Surgery.
