General Summary:

Researches payroll payments, employee wages, and deduction history to ensure payroll tax compliance and processing of applicable adjustments. Performs fact-finding analysis using all available and appropriate tools related to audit reports, databases, information requests, SOX requirements, and software applications.    Recommends improvements in systems, policies and procedures to management.  Creates and formats analytical reports and prepares correspondence to internal and external departments using Microsoft software tools.  Maintains payroll tax compliance between Dollar General Corporation, third party vendors, and federal, state and local taxing authorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, audit, and process all payroll adjustments for entire company on a scheduled frequency.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies related to payroll tax notices within 60 days.                  
  • Research, audit, and test payroll system tax withholding and wage accumulators related to new tax jurisdictions when applicable.                                                                                                        
  • Export, download, process and follow-up to ensure appropriate actions are completed related to weekly tax warning reports distributed to external and internal departments for resolution.  
  • Utilize ADP software to review and audit exception reports to ensure company compliance.
  • Review, resolve, and answer payroll tax questions for all company locations.                                              
  • Assist in other areas of payroll tax and performs special projects as assigned
Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll and payroll tax procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of payroll tax filing requirements for Federal, State and Local entities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to efficiently coordinate and prioritize work in a time sensitive environment.
  • Inquisitive with the ability to think creatively.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be a team player and is customer service driven.
  • Ability to create reports and databases using Microsoft office programs and applicable report writing tools.        
  • Facilitates the accomplishment of the Mission and values of the corporation.

 

Work Experience and/or Education:

Associates degree or minimum of 2 years payroll and/or payroll tax experience. Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of payroll tax laws in a multi-state environment.  Experience creating complex spreadsheets and databases including utilization of report writing tools.  Large company experience a plus.
