Job Description
Job Summary:
The Pre-Op Teaching Nurse provides direct nursing care related to patient admissions to OR in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates pre-admissions/patient education activities for surgical patients such as pre-surgery instructions and patient financial responsibility in accordance with perioperative policies and procedures.
- Assesses and communicates with surgical patient based on information obtained during the pre-admission interview and from test results.
- Coordinates testing according to physician s orders.
- Communicates unusual or complex problems to appropriate physicians and staff to assure continuity of care.
- Assesses patient; family education and teaching needs. Assesses patient; family readiness/willingness to learn. Teaches self-care management techniques.
- Documents conclusions reached based on assessment data that indicates the potential for or actual human need fulfillment or deficit for the client as person, family or community.
- Initiates and revises the plan of care, as needed, to ensure the needs of the patient are identified, appropriate nursing interventions are implemented and community resources are realized.
- Maintains open channels of communication with personnel in patient care units and ambulatory care sites.
Qualifications
Licenses/Certifications/Registration:
- Required Credential(s):
- Advanced Life Support obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.
- Certified BLS Provider obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
- Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the New York Department of Education obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
