Job Summary:

Performs basic patient care, ophthalmic testing procedures and initial patient examinations as directed by physician or supervisor. Performs clerical functions and assists with basic training of non-certified technicians and students.

Responsibilities:

* Performs initial patient examinations, ophthalmic testing procedures and assists physician with related examinations/procedures as directed.

* Documents patient information in the patient medical record.

* Assists with training non-certified technicians and students.

* Performs clerical, stocking, maintenance and other related duties.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education:

* High School Diploma or equivalent.

* Successful completion of the JCAHPO written exam and skill evaluation for Certified Ophthalmic Technician.

Certifications:

* Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

Complexity of Work:

* Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.

* Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

* Minimum of 2 years of experience required.

Physical Requirements:

* Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment utilized to perform testing procedures.

* Manual dexterity to perform various exams and hold equipment; good eye-hand coordination; may require long periods of standing and walking.

Personal Protective Equipment:

* Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
