About this job
Our client, a research organization, focused on plant-based chemicals is looking for a Lab Technician to join their team. In this role, the candidate will participate in the development of plant-based additives and adhesives, in particular in the manufacturing of composite wood panels.
Position Requirements (Skills, Experiences, Competencies, qualifications)
- 2 years or more of working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (provided)
- Comply with all health, safety and environmental policies
- Become familiar with necessary MSDS's.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of associates
- Demonstrated high energy level, strong work ethic, and positive approach to problem solving
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Intermediate computer skills including the ability to create and input data into a spreadsheet
Other Requirements & Skills
- Maintain wood applications lab.
- Perform various tests and to analyze data to determine compliance to specified standards.
- Test specimens, perform visual evaluations of mode of failure and record results.
- Maintain and ensure calibration of all equipment in the lab.
- Determine trends and present data to management in order to initiate appropriate action.
- Prepare and Evaluate in preparing and evaluating formulated materials
- Maintain neat notebooks and data records and accurately record experimental procedures and data
- Prepare reports of laboratory results as directed by the supervisor or requester.
- Use laboratory, mixing and testing equipment.
- Use power tools, measuring devices, and other hand tools
- Be able to stand for long periods of time and/or work an extended schedule from time to time. Be able, on occasion, to lift heavy items (e.g. as much as 50 lbs to waist level).
- Assist with maintaining Laboratory chemical inventory.
- Assist with routine maintenance and repair of lab and field equipment.
Educational Requirements
Minimum of an Associate's degree in Chemical Technology or a related field.
Bachelor's degree preferred in wood science, forestry, chemistry, chemical engineering or other scientific discipline preferred.
Experience maintaining a wood shop and working with equipment such as sanders, panel saws, drills preferred
