PRIMARY PURPOSE: (Position Summary)

Under the supervision of the intensivist, this position supports the Critical Care Service Line. Principal responsibilities include assessing and managing the medical care of patients in collaboration with the physician. The incumbent will also communicate with other nursing staff and referring physician to ensure the continuity and coordination of care.

Our NP service provides care to the following patient population but not limited to this list below:

General Surgery

Plastic Surgery

Cardiothoracic Surgery, Heart Failure and Heart Transplant: ECMO VV and VA, IABP: Impella device, LVAD, RVAD

Vascular Surgery

Pulmonary

Renal Transplant

Pancreas Transplant

Hepatobiliary disease

Hepatology including fulminant and end stage liver failure and Liver Transplant

Orthopaedic Surgery

Neurosurgery

Stroke Neurology (mostly ischemic and ICH, SAH typically cared for at one of our other campuses)

Medicine Overflow from the resident service (residents are not on the NP service and only provide care to MICU patients)

The NP service manages certain patient populations in the TICU as follows:

Post op Living Related Renal Transplant

Hepatobiliary

End stage liver disease

Post transplant patients of above either heading towards the floor or decompensating coming back to the TICU

Pulmonary / tracheostomy / mechanically ventilated

The ACNP or AG-ACNP may perform the following procedures, as this is an expectation for our role:

Central line and arterial line placement

PA line placement

Intubation

Paracentesis

Thoracentesis

Lumbar puncture

Intrathecal tPA administration

EVD management / removal

The NP service responds to Code Blue throughout the hospital. The NP service manages the code and performs necessary procedures during the codes.

This position is fast paced and demanding. The acuity of the patients we care for make our role that much more intense. We are very autonomous in our role with oversight from the attending physicians when needed.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Master's degree in Nursing.

Current California RN license

Current California Nurse Practitioner certificate

Furnishing and DEA numbers

Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) with one (1) year of employment at California Pacific Medical Center

ACLS and BLS current

Knowledge:

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

Ability to handle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work with individuals of diverse background and experience to create an effective working climate.

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of RN experience in Critical Care or Emergency Nursing

Critical Care experience preferred.
