  • Generate and evolve, in collaboration or individually, models and algorithms that support overall merchandising decisions and strategic direction of retail organization.

  • Provide pricing subject matter expertise for Retail initiatives, from Key Value Category ownership and evolution to promotional optimization. Work to educate others on best practices for pricing excellence and the importance of data-driven decision-making.

  • Work in concert with Pricing departments roadmap and broadly support retail strategic initiatives based on relevant experience and expertise.

  • Design and implement solutions to improve capabilities and performance of the promo pricing process and technology solutions. Develop automated pricing solutions to improve insights and instill data-driven decision making.

  • Support merchant teams with analytics to assist pricing strategy, as well as to bring about competitive disruption.

  • Develop a testing capability. Frequently test new, progressive pricing concepts, and the means to tie them back to financial impacts.

  • Build and maintain a collaborative work style with IT / BI partners and 3rd party vendors and consultants. Ensure adherence to good citizen practices through transparency and focus on details.

  • Create, build, and maintain partnerships with all levels of the organization - from Merchandising to IT - ensuring a well-coordinated, collaborative, efficient, and accurate approach to pricing.

  • Develop and actively manage pricing reports and dashboards to meet business user needs.

  • Prepare and present pricing strategy updates for senior leadership.

  • Act in an academic capacity to enshrine within the larger organization a desire for advanced data science techniques, and mentor others interested in developing skills within the discipline.

Experience and Skills

  • Expertise in R and/or Python data science libraries used for regression testing, clustering (K-Means, KNN, etc.), and machine learning (randomforest, scikit-learn, etc.). Fluency in SQL is recommended
  • Masters degree, preferably in Business Administration, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, or Finance

  • 3-5+ years of experience with the following:
  • Relational databases, and the means by which to extract / manage large volumes of data

  • Promotional analysis and seasonality within a retail environment

  • Advanced statistical concepts and methodologies applicable to retail / merchandising topics

  • Understanding of retail analytics, concepts, and general practices

  • Experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software product and/or systems provided via third party solution providers or built in-house

  • Experience working for a retailer or consulting in a retail environment preferred

  • Experience with pricing preferred

  • Familiarity with BI / Analytics platforms, such as MicroStrategy, Cognos, Tableau, etc.

  • Strong technical and project management skills with the ability to apply a 'hands-on' approach.

  • Skilled in preparing and presenting reports, data, and analysis. Familiar with statistical testing and analytics development.

  • Ability to lead courageously - not afraid to speak frankly, offer new ideas, take calculated risks, and support positive change.

  • Creative and customer focused; ability to develop practical, yet innovative solutions .

  • Highly organized and self-directed. Detail oriented. Ability to multi-task.
