3M is seeking a Human Resources Supervisor for the Human Resources Division located in Brookings, SD. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Human Resources Supervisor will perform complex research and analysis in support of a fast-paced, multi-division, 1,100 employee operation, consistent with 3M's Human Resources Principles.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage professional and support level employees within Human Resources.
  • Work closely with management to proactively prepare staffing plans and determine the most effective recruiting method to fill all positions timely.
  • Provide human resources leadership to the plant, which aligns with plant strategies and objectives (e.g. attendance, leadership development, employee development), with full responsibility and accountability for employee relations in assigned areas.
  • Optimize HR administration by simplifying processes, tools, and/or systems to improve ease of use for our clients.
  • Apply extensive experience and HR knowledge of related and non-related precedents and policies to pro-actively solve problems to help us realize our "Good to GREAT" objectives. Lead projects, linking project steps to business strategies. Ensure plans support business needs and goals and that project objectives and deadlines are met. Assemble and lead project teams. Present timely project recommendations to appropriate personnel that demonstrate sound planning in support of business needs and goals.
  • Perform work tasks, which are likely to encompass concepts within multiple disciplines/practices, including more than one department/location. Working tasks might include:

a. Recruit, screen and recommend candidates for hourly and salaried positions

b. Conduct employee orientation program

c. Answer moderately complex and diverse compensation-related questions

d. Serve as a member of a Center of Expertise

e. Provide advice and instruction regarding policy and procedural inquiries

f. Conduct salary reviews and makes appropriate recommendations

g. Write and update employee handbooks

h. Develop and administer new training and development programs while maintaining and/or adjusting existing programs as needed

i. Manage salary administration programs

j. Exercise discretion in matters of confidentiality

k. Protect the corporation and assure 3M values and policies are upheld and complied to, as well as that 3M processes are implemented as appropriate. Ensure compliance with 3M Business Conduct Policies and other policies, and teach and act as an example of uncompromising ethics. Ensure local legislation is complied to at all times.

  • Participate actively in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M's values and ethical standards.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of four (4) years of Human Resources experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or Business with emphasis on organizational management
  • Experience in sourcing candidates in a tight labor market.
  • Prior experience leading cross functional teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources theories and practices, typically applied to one or more disciplines such as benefits, compensation, staffing, organizational development, employee relations, operations, etc.
  • Knowledge of computer programs and corporate systems relevant to the assigned area of responsibility is normally required. Generally requires the ability to communicate in written and spoken English.

Travel: May include up to 5%
