Position Summary:

The Security Engineer role is responsible for developing architectures, services, processes, and systems that reduce risk, answer business needs, and move beyond industry best practices and into the next stage in Cyber Security. The scope includes people, process and technology components for all the services delivered by Cyber Security. The Security Engineer works as trusted technical and process advisors in our areas of specialty to inform strategy and the future direction of Cyber Security inside Staples, in Staples's product and services offerings, and in our industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with the team on selection, acquisition, design, development and implementation of new tools, solutions, functionality, and frameworks that include people, process and technology components. successfully to Cyber Security Operations teams.
  • This position is a "hands on" position, requiring a candidate that cannot only lead the team, but can roll up their sleeves and actively participate in the defined area of responsibility.
  • Act as an advocate for mentoring in the cyber security organization
  • Ensure that proper tools, processes and procedures are in place to effectively provide Architecture function for the organization. This includes synthesizing techniques and applying them to cyber security.
  • Working with vendors, often smaller companies and startups to fulfill and develop new cyber security capabilities.
  • Act as a liaison with other internal Staples teams or driving new capabilities, product investments, and research to fill coverage gaps.
  • Responsible for creating future security architectural approaches and developing new security controls to meet emerging threats
  • Identifies and integrates new technologies into the company's technology portfolio
  • Work with the team in the development and evolution of security roadmaps, embodiment of strategic plans, understanding controls and process gaps, providing architectural vision, and enabling the larger cyber security team.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in Information Security related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of large-scale cross discipline project management experience.
  • BS degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 8 years' progressive experience in a cyber security related role, with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Security Architecture, Security Engineering, Incident Response, Cyber Defense Center (CDC) / Security Monitoring, Security Product Management.
  • Background in cyber security services and operations and the people, process, and technology components that make them successful.
  • Experience managing distributed and cross-functional IT/business team.
  • Knowledge of Azure Security best practices in enterprise cloud deployments
  • Knowledge of Office 365 environments sitting on top of Azure
  • Knowledge of how to assess Azure tenant security posture including Azure AD and ADFS implementations, sign-in and audit reports
  • Knowledge on how to assess the security posture of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS instances
  • Experience with Azure security tools and options including Azure Identity Protection, Cloud App Security, Conditional Access, and others in the EMS E5 suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in fulfilling business needs through the development of solutions through well-organized processes.
  • Significant Service Management and or vendor management experience.
  • Must be able to communicate at a technical and business level, and be a bridge between the two.
  • Able to function independently, under pressure and perform multiple functions and duties with minimal supervision or guidance.
  • Possess strong communication and people skills.
  • Possess excellent people management and organizational development skills.
