POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs a wide variety of activities not requiring the professional judgment of a pharmacist. These duties include, but are not limited to, reading and recording drug orders, preparing medications, procuring and restocking medications and other medical supplies, delivering medications, and billing medications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. High school graduate or equivalent. College courses desirable, but not required.

  2. Must possess a current Pharmacy Technician Certification in the state of Maryland. (PTCB)

  3. Pharmacy experience with hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

  4. Precise hand/eye coordination necessary for production of IV admixtures and compounding and dispensing of medications. Must be able to receive and relay information to other hospital departments in person and over the phone. Basic computer skills with experience in Word and Excel.

  5. Ability to ambulate around department and to other areas of the institution to perform daily activities. Must be able to bend or stoop and reach to fill medication carts, file, fill medication orders, and restock depleted areas. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds on a repetitive basis to restock IV fluids. Handle medication carts via wheeled devices with ability to push or pull up to 250 pounds.

  6. Ability to perform basic math functions and problem solving with some algebra. Must be able to understand instructions and comply with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Must be able to read and interpret physician's orders and possess fine visual skills capable of identification of medication and contamination of IV products.

  7. Exposure to chemotherapy drugs, other hazardous medications, cleaners and alcohol.
