Description

Position Summary:

This position supports pricing strategy and execution for Staples retail stores and staples.com.

Pricing specialists provide analytical support to merchant teams and pricing management, collecting and aggregating internal and external data and making impactful recommendations based on findings. The primary goal is to maximize financial performance by delivering accurate and timely reporting and recommendations to business owners, empowering those business owners to make impactful pricing decisions. This is done by working closely with merchant teams to understand their categories and needs, monitoring the market for competitive movement, and analyzing sales history.

This role includes elements of strategy, analytics, and operations and requires critical thinking and an acute attention to detail. Identifying competition's strategies, developing and testing Staples strategies, and maintaining price strategies as competition changes over time are key to balancing financial performance and customer price perception. Regarding analytics, a steady stream of ad hoc requests from merchant teams as well as developing and maintaining reports can be expected. Operationally, this team member is responsible for execution of everyday price changes within price systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Recommend price changes in reaction to changes in product cost.

  2. Establish and improve price strategies. Test new strategies and report on results. Identify risks and opportunities in response to price movement in the market.

  3. Shape customer behavior to maximize financial performance by building and maintaining product relationships (i.e. pack size savings, good-better-best)

  4. Execute changes within systems for regular, everyday prices. This includes merchant requests and approved changes from specialist's recommendations.

  5. Support merchant teams with ad hoc analytics

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelors Degree

Minimum Prior Related Work Experience Typically Required:

2-4 Years

Essential Skills Required:

  1. Highly organized with the ability to meet tight deadlines and balance workload effectively

  2. Solid computer skills (advanced in Excel, efficient in Alteryx, Tableau and Access)

  3. Highly detail-oriented with efficient and error free execution skills

  4. Superior communication skills

  5. Self-motivated and able to work independently

  6. Positive attitude, sense of urgency and ability to work collaboratively
