JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the Finance, Global Operations, Communications, Executive Office , Human Resources and Law (FOCEHL Finance Business Partnership (FBP), the Senior Business Analyst, Business Support will support the management and execution of financial management processes that support financial and operational business strategies and plans designed to enable FOCEHL to achieve its business objectives. Specifically he/she will contribute to:

  • The ongoing monitoring, measuring and forecasting of FOCEHL’s financial performance and the development and implementation of actionable recommendations to address identified business challenges and opportunities.
  • The ongoing monitoring and analysis of FOCEHL’s’ programs, services and/or initiatives costs to ensure funding and cost allocation methodologies are appropriately and consistently applied and spending levels are aligned with business priorities and plans; as well as activities related to the development and implementation of new programs, services, and initiatives to include development of complex activity-based cost models and analyses of funding approaches that are in compliance with management and franchise agreements.
  • Return on investment analyses and other projects in support of discipline initiatives.
  • The enterprise-wide annual budget and long range planning process to include the timely and efficient execution of these processes within FOCEHL.
  • The monitoring of the FOCEHL control environment and the development of actionable recommendations to improve controls and processes.
 

The Senior Business Analyst, Business Support will also provide proactive support to ensure the financial management, reporting, and analysis needs of FOCEHL are met through effective partnerships with the various Global Finance groups. He/she will establish and maintain strong relationships with these Discipline groups to help effectively address business issues, identify and implement appropriate solutions, influence, as appropriate, business decisions, and improve overall business results. He/she will partner with the disciplines and the team to implement, as appropriate, finance and accounting strategies, policies, processes, and tools to ensure accurate financial reporting and to monitor the achievement of enterprise business goals.

 
EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
  • Contribute to execution of activities designed to monitor and measure the financial performance of FOCEHL and its applicable programs and services.
    • Assist with Marriott Business Services (MBS) and other Global Finance groups, as appropriate, to provide routine and ad-hoc operating results and analysis to FOCEHL staff.
    • Contribute knowledge of the business environment in FOCEHL and interpret data and reports in consultation with the FOCEHL FBP leadership team and discipline leaders as appropriate, to ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial information, explain trends and/or variations in results vs. expectations, and develop and implement actionable recommendations and responses to address identified business challenges and opportunities.
    • Ensure knowledge and understanding of funding and cost allocation methodologies for FOCEHL’s programs, services and initiatives.
    • Monitor and analyze programs, services and initiatives costs to ensure compliance with funding and cost allocation methodologies, to determine over/under recovery positions. Perform funding and cost analyses to support business decision making and to respond to internal management and external parties inquires.
    • Establish and nurture relationships with the Disciplines to ensure information flow is timely and appropriate to effect attention to business challenges and opportunities.
    • Partner with MBS and other Global Finance groups, as appropriate, to ensure service delivery metrics are met and operational challenges are resolved timely.
    • Partner with the FOCEHL FBP team and other Global Finance groups, as appropriate, to develop and/or modify reporting tools to ensure FOCEHL’s operating results, programs and services funding and costs are accurately reflected in company financials.
  • Perform analyses related to the development and implementation of new programs, services and initiatives in FOCEHL.
    • Ensure knowledge and understanding of funding and cost allocation methodologies for FOCEHL’s programs, services and initiatives.
    • Develop complex activity-based cost models and recovery analyses to include quantitative and qualitative analysis of data gathered from other internal departments for relevance, accuracy and completeness.
    • Support the development of funding approaches/recommendations compliant with management and franchise agreements. Participate in presentations to senior management.
    • Work with the business and/or other internal groups to provide financial support and analysis of proposed projects. Support efforts to compile, analyze, model and interpret data for return on investment analyses and other special projects in support of the discipline.   Develop and understanding of business needs and long term impacts of project decisions to highlight potential risk for management review.
    • Assist with recommendations and presentations for Program & Services Agreement Compliance (PSAC) Advisory Committee approval.
  • Support the timely and effective execution of the enterprise-wide annual budget, forecast and long range planning processes, partnering with Global Finance FBP team, discipline and Projects staff, and MBS. 
    • Ensure in-depth knowledge and understanding of current processes and tools to facilitate serving as a key resource to FOCEHL staff. Support the implementation of new and/or enhanced processes and tools to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the execution of budgeting and planning processes.
    • Assist with preparation of inputs to budget and/or LRP guidelines for FOCEHL programs and services costs.
    • Assist in the consolidation of all FOCEHL budgets and long range plans, including variance analyses required by the Global Finance FBP team.
    • Participate in review meetings with FOCEHL staff to support presentation of budgets and long range plans for approvals.
    • Prepare financial information packages as required.
  • Contribute to the proactive monitoring FOCEHL’s financial control environment.
    • Support the completion of annual compliance processes/procedures (i.e. Prepared by Client work papers, Agreed Upon Procedures, Federal Disclosure Document, Owner Disclosures) for applicable programs and services. Respond to compliance, financial and internal control audit requests as required (e.g. AUP, Sarbox, etc.).
    • Use data and reports generated by the various Global Finance groups and own analyses of operating results, trends and variations in results vs. expectations to identify actual/potential control issues and process improvement opportunities.
    • Partner with the FOCEHL FBP team and appropriate Global Finance groups to develop and implement necessary corrective actions.  
  • Participate in the training and coaching of the staff; provide specific feedback to junior team members to improve performance;
  • Contribute to the organizational effectiveness of the FOCEHL FBP by actively seeking to improve processes and clarify work roles.
  • Identify and help implement process improvement opportunities in the interfaces with other Global Finance groups.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses for and/or provide information to and advise, as appropriate, the FOCEHL FBP team, FOCEHL staff and other Global Finance groups on the business environment and key operating issues within the discipline.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
 
CANDIDATE PROFILE
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline required.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience
  • History of consistently delivering business results
  • Experience in complex data analysis and financial modeling
  • Prior experience assisting a team in a complex, service-intensive, deadline-driven environment a plus
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent PC skills: advance knowledge of MS Excel
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; able to take complex information and present it in a clear and concise manner
