Operations Analytics Manager

The role…

Corporate Business Performance & Analytics Manager (internal title is Manager, Operations Analytics). You not only pay attention to the details of what is behind the numbers and calculations for key business metrics a, but you are able to tell the story of what it means and package the data components together to inform executive audiences. To get there, you work closely with disparate data providers to ensure the content is accurate and delivered on-time for key internal and external meetings, such as earnings calls, board meetings and presentations to senior executives. And when the content isn't quite right, you are able to quickly sniff it out and come up with solutions so crises are avoided.

You have a strong business background and understand how businesses operate. In your current or a former role you may have worked for a consulting firm. Even if you don't have an MBA, people assume you do. This role isn't IT, PR/Communications or report production, but you should feel very comfortable collaborating with technical teams as well as other cross-functional groups. To make insights more accessible you will develop and execute knowledge management programs and systems to promote use of key learning within the Business Intelligence Group and by internal business partners. Because of your skill at developing and managing business processes, you will support the daily operational activities for our relationship with Smith Travel Research (STR) data, ensuring that the business needs are being met.

Finally, because you are working so closely with our key performance metrics and have an enterprise level perspective, you will partner with business stakeholders to craft a coordinated and integrated key metric planning process that generates the business goal metrics that are used for setting corporate, brand and department goals for the organization.

The team…

Reports to Senior Director, Market & Customer Research and will collaborate closely with (dotted-line connection to) Director, Performance Analytics Planning & Strategy and

Project Manager, Corporate Analytics. No direct reports.

What you will do…

Manage Key Metric Processes and Applications

  • Process management for timely consolidation and communication of content for key internal applications, including the Operating Committee and brand steering committee scorecards, Board of Directors reports, corporate goals and other key integrated operational metrics that apply for the organization
  • Facilitation of key metric goal development and socialization
  • Validate key data content from business partners to ensure accuracy of application

Knowledge Management

  • Develop and manage Business Intelligence Group content inventory and establish a new searchable system to promote accessibility to past learning from analyses, key metrics, deliverables and/or publications
  • Documentation of key metric and measurement definitions, reporting processes and applications
  • Promote self-service reporting options for Business Intelligence Group team members and business partners and ensure use of appropriate reporting for key business metrics

Manage Operational Processes for Key Reporting Systems

  • Facilitate market trend analysis requests to Smith Travel Research (STR) and optimize delivery for application by key internal business partners
  • Manage and monitor STR file transmissions and ensure timely and accurate delivery of data feeds, pipeline information and the distribution of STAR reports for Choice Hotels properties
  • Serve as liaison with STR for operational elements

Support Holistic and Integrated Insights

  • Assist with syndicated and primary research efforts (e.g. STR, Medallia) including implementation, table proofing and analysis, and provide support for other ad-hoc research programs and insight sources as required

Skills you have…

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in an analytical position, with experience in corporate environment preferred
  • 1+ years of experience with STR performance data preferred
  • Computer proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint and strong database software skills, with knowledge or experience with Tableau preferred
  • Data visualization experience desired with tools such as Qlik, Tableau, Business Objects, Spotfire, Microstrategy, PowerBI, etc.
  • Experience supporting and working with information management systems (e.g., Confluence or open source solutions) desired
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with attention to detail required
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills required
  • High level of organizational, time management and planning skills required
  • Proven ability to prioritize and execute workload to meet requirements and deadlines
  • Experience developing compelling written and visual communications that are clear, concise, and suited to the audience
  • Ability to comfortably interact at all levels within the organization and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of and experience in the hospitality/travel industry a plus
