Position Title Accountant III

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Accountant III to be based in our Greenwood Village, Colorado location.

Position Description:

This position is in the Financial Reporting team, part of the Civil Construction business unit. The team is responsible for closing the business unit's books, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of reporting our monthly and quarterly results. As a team member, you must be accountable and take full ownership for assigned projects and responsibilities. To be successful in this position, you must be a quick learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment, produces quality work product, stays focused under pressure and gets the job done.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with EC Oracle and OutlookSoft close Prepare monthly reports and provide financial analysis to Civil management.

  • Reconcile accounts monthly.

  • Journal Corporate G&A and Royalty allocations, intercompany interest, and transfer pricing adjustments.

  • Under general supervision, provide support to more experienced personnel by performing routine accounting assignments requiring a broad knowledge of accounting theory and principles.

  • Apply sound professional judgment and independent thought on details of work.

  • Provide ad hoc reporting support.

  • Assist with procedures related to internal SOX procedures and coordination with external auditors and assisting in maintaining SOX controls for the Civil Construction;

  • Assist in getting variance explanations from business managers/projects;

  • Assist with monthly close including preparing journal entries;

  • Reconcile accounts monthly/quarterly;

  • Prepare and take ownership of aged AR and Unbilled analysis for Civil Construction.

This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager in the Financial Reporting Team.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or a related field or demonstrated equivalent.

Experience:

  • 4 years of accounting experience in general accounting and financial reporting knowledge and experience with GAAP and SEC and financial statement preparation and review (each year in accounting position with National or International accounting firm may equal two years of accounting experience);

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Effective listing skills;

  • Able to meet deadlines and deliver results;

  • Strong sense of urgency;

  • Accountability for project and assignments to ensure their ultimate completion.

  • Under limited supervision, performs accounting assignments requiring diversified experience, theoretical knowledge and skill.

  • Demonstrates competence in most aspects of the job and the ability to identify and solve difficult problems.

  • May provide technical guidance, direction and/or training to accounting personnel.

  • Is able to apply sound professional judgment on details of work.

  • May assemble and prepare monthly financial reports and other technical reports as needed

  • Assists in maintaining the general ledger and subsidiary systems.

  • Maintains good communication with engineers, accountants, purchasing personnel and various administrative staff, as well as clients, vendors and subcontractors;

  • Work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting objectives.

  • Is able to apply sound professional judgment on details of work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Oracle General Ledger Software;

  • Construction accounting experience;

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite and MS Excel with ability to understand complex Excel worksheets;

  • Knowledge of SAP Business Planning & Consolidations (BPC) Financial Software.
