Crew Chief South Florida Water Management District Okeechobee Field Station                 This position is responsible for the leadership of the Structure Maintenance work group, which performs mechanical work associated with the repair and maintenance of water control structures, navigation locks and field station buildings and facilities. Incumbent is responsible for overseeing projects and work assignments, including overhauls on water control gates and gearboxes, preventive maintenance on water control structures and maintenance of buildings and facilities. Must be able to read and follow job specifications, blueprints and diagrams.   Incumbent exercises independent judgment, problem solving skills, decision making skills, and conflict resolution skills and effectively communicates alternatives and recommendations to subordinates and peers. Communicates and coordinates production activities ensuring quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of team resources. Provides feedback to immediate supervisor regarding employee performance of assigned crew.   Demonstrates familiarity with software applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SAP.   This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing.   Work hours are Monday – Thursday from 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.   Employment Guidelines High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of experience in structure and facility maintenance or mechanical repair, plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience demonstrating leadership capabilities in a leadership role.   Licenses Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).   Must maintain valid certifications in Rigging, Forklift Operations, First Response-Oil and Chemical Spills, CPR and First Aid.   Physical Requirements/Working Environment Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.   Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may, at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.   Primarily field work with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions, stinging/biting insects, alligators and snakes.
