Job Overview:

The Data as a Service (DaaS) team is responsible for acquiring all/any data that has business value to create single version of truth for the enterprise - combining online and stores data. The main objective of this team is to provide common data services to the enterprise and democratize this data through frictionless access facilitating speed and agility required by various data consumers, and providing 360° view of business data enabling operational and analytical use cases on large volumes of data.

The Senior Architect position reports to the Director, Data Foundations and Hubs, and plays a key role in establishing and owning the technology strategy, end to end architectures, standards/best practices, and providing technical and architectural leadership to a team of architects and engineers. The Senior Architect's primary area of focus will be to provide a go-forward technology direction for the data foundations and real-time data hubs, detailing a technology capability roadmap and evolution of technologies/tools within the Data as a Service (DaaS) team to establish an internet scale, low latency, resilient and reliable foundation across cloud, on-premise and hybrid implementations in a business-critical environment.

This Senior Architect should also be ready to show both a hands-on and a leadership role in guiding the entire solution design, working closely with the other technology architects and engineers.

Essential Functions:

  • Development and delivery of reference architectures that will be used across the data foundations and data hubs within DaaS to enable consistency, to ensure interoperability and promote reusability.
  • Develop and document architecture patterns, best practices, strategies, roadmaps and robust solutions in a collaborative manner.
  • Architect, design, prototype and implement modern distributed real-time event processing systems and modern data warehouses to handle internet volume at speed and at scale for both on-prem, cloud and/or hybrid solutions.
  • Provide detailed guidance on handling extremely large throughput of events, for correlation, aggregation, enrichment, complex processing and persistence for data driven decisions via events and APIs.
  • Be a thought leader to evangelize and champion the best solutions and standards that meet the goals for a highly distributed computing based architecture and design.
  • Recommend cost-effective strategies to rationalize technology stacks, migrate existing workloads to cloud and consolidation of functions to simplify and reduce overall footprint.
  • Participate in the full SDLC (RUP/Agile), including meetings, estimations, planning, design and review sessions.
  • Deliver assignments on time, within budget and with high quality.
  • Communicate complex technical choices and tradeoffs in easy to understand, business-friendly language.
  • Collaborate across multiple teams within business engineering, product engineering, technology services functions and infrastructure teams to align solutions that meet the business and technology strategy.
  • Become a trusted advisor to engineering teams delivering architecture guidance, and assisting in large-scale implementations.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering and 10 years of related or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years experience as an Architect in implementing business critical, high throughput, low latency and highly available enterprise systems, web services, and event-driven distributed systems across multiple geographic locations both on-prem and on the cloud.
  • 10 years experience with Java/J2EE based technologies.
  • 5 years experience with message based architecture (JMS, Kafka).
  • 5 years experience with NoSQL based distributed data stores (Cassandra, Elasticsearch, BigTable).
  • 5 years experience with operational data stores (RDBS, In-memory databases etc.).
  • 5 years experience with highly scalable distributed stream processing (Spark or similar).
  • Must have experience, with a strong foundation, in-depth technical knowledge and hands on experience with technologies in the real-time data hub.
  • Must have a solid understanding of master data management, common data services, and • microservices based architecture patterns.
  • Must have experience in building real-time data hubs consolidating data from multiple systems at a high velocity, correlating, aggregating, harmonizing and enriching data to persist and making it available via highly scalable web services and events.
  • Must have a deep understanding of various cloud offerings like Google Cloud including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS to be able to lead cloud and/or on-prem / hybrid data foundation and hub architecture and implementations.
  • Must have a good understanding of developing security solutions for event/services and data exchange across systems, developers, third party vendors and partners.
  • Must have strong leadership skills with emphasis on influencing and engagement of cross functional teams.
  • Must have experience with or willingness to adopt principles of Agile delivery.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to facilitate positive working relationships with excellent customer service skills.
  • Nice to have experience in leading large scale modern data warehousing projects.
  • Nice to have experience in DevOps environments and automating CI/CD processes.
  • Nice to have experience with Jenkins or other CI tools and knowledge of technologies like containers and microservices.

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret business and technical documents.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Have strong analytic skills and the ability to learn new concepts and software applications quickly and efficiently.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands:

  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.
  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.
  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.
