Job Summary

Provide support to Savannah River Remediation (SRR) as a

Student Summer Intern Limited Service Employee (LSE) on the Savannah River Site (SRS), a US Department of Energy (DOE) facility in western South Carolina.

The intern will perform meaningful work in support of the organization. Guidance will be provided using SRR processes and procedures. Interns will prepare and present a final project to the SRR management team summarizing conclusions about the experience, impacts delivered and relevance for their future career.

This assignment is for the Process & Regulatory Engineering group. The intern will utilize basic chemical engineering, problem solving and analytical skills to assist in Chemical Process Engineering Department day-to-day activities and emergent work. Intern should have excellent Microsoft Word and Excel and general chemistry knowledge.

Additional Information:

The internship will run for a 12-week period from May 14, 2018 until August 2, 2018. Housing is not provided but reasonable rentals are available through the University of South Carolina-Aiken student housing office.

A 40-hour work week is set and scheduled by the individual departments. SRS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), etc. Each work day has a 30-minute lunch. Interns will be paid a competitive hourly rate; no summer interns will be assigned to shift work; overtime is not available; Interns will be paid for site holidays (Memorial Day, July 4) as applicable.

Assignments will be located in SRR facilities on the 300sq mile DOE site outside of Aiken SC. Public transportation is not available and interns will be required to arrange their own transportation. A valid Driver's License, Registration and proof of automobile insurance is required for driving on the Savannah River Site.

If you are selected to participate in the SRR internship program, additional information will be requested such as: SRR employment application, references and official transcripts. You will be assigned to SRS General Employee Training and Drug and Alcohol test appointments before badging and commencement of assignment.

Minimum Requirements

+ Candidate must be enrolled as a full-time student as a rising junior or senior at:

+ an accredited four year university, and currently working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering OR

+ an accredited college or university, and currently working towards a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering

+ Must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.

+ Due to the nature of work, candidate must be a US Citizen

In addition:

+ Must pass General Employment Training (GET)

+ Must pass Drug and Alcohol Testing (DAT)

These two items will be scheduled before the intern starts work at Savannah River Site.
