SUMMARY

The Manager, Sustainability and Corporate Communications at Advance Auto Parts plays a critical role in the development and execution of the company's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) focused communications that impact Advance's reputation. This position is primarily responsible for developing, executing and project managing the external and internal communication efforts to support Advance's broader ESG program. This position will work closely with senior leaders and other business partners to develop a communication program and deliverables that support the company's ESG efforts while aligning with Advance's Vision, Mission and overall communication objectives. In addition to the primary ESG communication responsibilities, this role will provide communication support for select corporate function(s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

ESG Communications

  • Working with the Director, Communications, develops and executes Advance's ESG communication strategy in alignment with the company's overall Mission, Vision and Values as well as its business and communication priorities

  • Plans, develops and project manages the company's annual ESG Report outlining the company's ESG-related efforts and results in alignment with Advance's broader public disclosure practices

  • Monitors trends and implements new, digitally focused approaches to drive and differentiate Advance's ESG-related communication efforts

  • Serves as a member of, and works closely with, Advance's cross-functional ESG working group to deliver critical ESG communications to both internal and external stakeholders

  • Works cross-functionally to ensure ESG-focused communications effectively position Advance and its ESG-related efforts in the most effective manner possible

  • Serves as a communications business partner for the ESG working team guiding the organization in planning effective online, print and in-person communications

  • Leverages and/or develops digital platform(s) to capture and share ESG related results and updates throughout the organization

  • Works with internal subject matter experts to strategically manage and engage with external organizations to identify opportunities to move ESG efforts forward and share the progress internally and externally

Corporate Communications

  • Serves as business partner to select corporate departments; develops communication plans, messages and tools for initiatives and events impacting the corporate management team and corporate office Team Members

  • Develops strategic communication plans and coordinates communication efforts required for the successful rollout of company initiatives, programs and campaigns

  • Prepares and issues critical and time-sensitive communications to the supported business teams

  • Manages and develops intranet content using WebSphere Content Manager; ensures intranet content is aligned with the company's business objectives

  • Develops company information articles as needed including researching, writing, editing and proofreading articles

  • Working with Director, Communications, provides external communications support for select businesses and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in ESG, sustainability and/or corporate social responsibility-focused communication efforts

  • Strong understanding of the core ESG issues related to the retail industry (experience with automotive and/or the automotive aftermarket industry is ideal)

  • Experience in supporting communication efforts across a geographically-dispersed and multi-unit retail operation

  • Proven ability to create, manage and implement complex communication plans

  • Demonstrated poise and confidence in working with all levels in the company, including senior executives

  • Ability to inspire confidence and establish oneself as the communications leader on various teams

  • Strong research, writing, editing and proofreading skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions; interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to work in a positive manner with individuals inside and outside of the company

  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines on time and on budget, work under pressure and handle multiple priorities; strong project management skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in communications field
