Role Summary:

The Material Technical Advisor provides expertise in an advisory capacity to the railroad. In this role, you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, drive process adherence, develop and execute objectives for self and others and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, you will:

  • Provide clear communication and technical guidance to railroad employees, management, GE employees, including; troubleshooting, material assistance, tooling and/or locomotive status, safety procedures, productivity and process improvements, and contract requirement clarification
  • Coordinate and provide instruction on key programs and procedures related to locomotive maintenance/modifications
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to create repair opportunities in the shop and to gain access to craftsman labor force
  • Train and monitor work activities for safe and efficient locomotive repairs
  • Work as part of a cross functional team, driving a "one team" focus, dedicated to customer success within the shop
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, OSHA work practices, and industry / site specific work rules
  • Be responsible for all shift performance & execution, customer communications and issue resolution
  • Make risk assessments balancing customer requests with GE requirements
  • Work with various software systems to manage material, labor plans, and other systemic requirements
  • Work with customers externally and internally to identify new opportunities to improve our current processes as well as design and implement progressive management processes and systems based on LEAN and Six Sigma
  • Be responsible for all aspects of warehousing and material management including

fulfillment, transactional quality, inventory accuracy, productivity and freight forwarding and implementing materials storage upgrades as necessary

  • Meet inventory targets and operational targets including month-end and quarter close processes for inventory
  • Manage materials fulfillment metrics including timely hardware "roll dates", kit quality and overtime/unapplied time
  • Meet customer schedules effectively though advanced planning and create ability to expedite shipments as required to meet deadlines

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical discipline from an accredited college or university (Or Associate's Degree in Technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience, Or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of Operations or Military experience)
  • Willingness and ability to work various shifts, various days
  • Willingness and ability to work in shop environment
