Security Manager

Reporting to the Hotel's Director of Safety and Security, the Security Manager is responsible for developing and/or maintaining a pro-active loss prevention program designed to ensure a safe and secure environment for hotel guests and employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist and coach the Security team to achieve exceptional levels of guest service and colleague satisfaction results, through the application of all Corporate and property standards and policies.
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Security Department, constantly monitoring to improve efficiency and service.
  • Consistent development, support, promotion and enforcement of hotel policy relating to colleague and guest safety and security.
  • Assist in Evaluating, developing and overseeing the hotel's Fire Prevention Programs and Life Safety Systems to include the monthly inspection of all fire extinguishers.
  • Know and act upon all relevant Federal, Provincial and Municipal Acts to include Trespass to Property, Innkeepers Act, Charter of Rights and Freedom and the powers of arrest.
  • Assist in the training and development of Security & Safety Programs throughout the hotel. Oversee and maintain updated knowledge in relevant Security equipment, systems, procedures and trends.
  • Oversee and administration of Locking Systems and Key Control Programs (Electronic and Manual)
  • Assist in the oversight of the hotel's Loss Prevention Program and assist with Claims Management
  • Liaise with other Hotel Security and Law Enforcement Agencies
  • Assist in planning of VIP, Special Events and Dignitary visits as required.
  • Ensure lost and found property procedures are followed accurately and consistently as required.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of all security equipment, i.e. radios, cameras, printers, computers and electronic lock systems
  • Maintain a positive relationship with all departments at The Fairmont Washington.
  • Be available for emergencies both on & off duty
  • Assist in Supervising and training Security Officers
  • Complete performance reviews on Security Officers
  • Assist in Maintaining schedules, vacation days, lieu days and sick day lists
  • Assists in maintaining key control
  • Carry out investigations pertaining to all security matters

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2 years' previous management experience in security operations.
  • University degree or College diploma. (Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Extensive experience in Loss Prevention, Emergency Management, Life Safety Systems, and Emergency First Aid.
  • Previous experience in emergency incidents and their management.
  • Advanced First Aid and CPR training, certified trainer license preferred.
  • Previous claims management experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of surveillance equipment and CCTV operations.
  • Knowledge of electronic lock card systems.
  • Currently possess or have the ability to obtain a DC SO or SPO License within 60 days.
  • Able to achieve AHLEI-Certified Lodging Security Supervisor certification within six months of hire.

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift
  • Will frequently be required to use a computer, telephone, copier, fax, and radio
  • Will frequently need to be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and twist upper body
  • Will occasionally need to climb or balance, stoop or kneel, and squat
  • Will frequently need to be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Will occasionally need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions
