The Financial Reporting Initiative (FRI) Program is a global Pfizer initiative tasked with the primary objective of delivering segmented balance sheet results in order to support the external reporting disclosures associated with Pfizer's business units: Pfizer Essential Health and Pfizer Innovative Health, comprised of the legacy Global Innovative Pharma (GIP), Global Vaccines, Oncology and Consumer businesses. The initiative also generates the financial information necessary to support strategic decision making by segmenting and collecting financial statement data for the income statement and cash flow statement. The FRI Program is transitioning from a project to a Center of Excellence (CoE) and this role will be based in the CoE.

The FRI CoE Senior Accountant will have responsibility for supporting selected areas within the FRI COE Analytics and Reporting Team, which is responsible for Financial Reporting Initiative (FRI) reporting and analysis globally.

In order to support the global segmentation process, the FRI CoE Sr. Accountant will collaborate cross-functionally within GFS and others, as necessary, to drive the timely creation of program deliverables, achieve program objectives, and ensure FRI responsibilities are fulfilled. This role will also require collaboration to support the on-going activities and initiatives of Pfizer as a whole in support of the OnePfizer mentality.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare FRI analytical package and ensure resolution of related questions
  • Perform review of flux and anomaly responses
  • Perform quarterly segmentation of financial statement line item accounts and complete other program objectives as required
  • Research and resolve discrepancies and complex accounting issues as necessary
  • Extract reports from SAP and perform accurate analysis to perform segmentation
  • Perform analysis on segmented data and identify / validate fluctuations where necessary
  • Compile metrics and ad-hoc reports as requested
  • Review tasks prepared and completed by staff accountants
  • Maintain complete and accurate standard operating procedures and related internal control documentation
  • Maintain complete and accurate task lists and status of open items to prepare status updates as requested by management
  • Prepare complex analysis for external accountants and Corporate Audit; own all required support including the resolution and remediation of open questions and concerns
  • Participate in special projects and other initiatives that are in addition to existing role and responsibility
  • Identify issues proactively and communicate to management along with potential range of solutions
  • Identify and participate in the implementation of continuous improvement projects and monitor the impact on FRI to ensure methodologies and SOPs are updated accordingly
  • Seek opportunities to participate in site activities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting or finance required
  • Masters preferred
  • 4+ years of relevant functional accounting or finance experience
  • CPA required (or equivalent international certification)
  • Public accounting experience preferred

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated advanced technical US GAAP and financial reporting knowledge and experience
  • Advanced SAP and HFM skills preferred
  • Proficiency in PC skills (MS Excel, Word, Power Point) required
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and overall communication skills
  • Strong Analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to informally mentor staff accountants
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and solve problems in an unstructured environment
  • Strong business acumen and professionalism with the ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and operations colleagues in all applicable Pfizer Finance and business functional areas
  • Ability to perform and deliver in areas involving ambiguity
