The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Cetrified Hyperbaric Tecnologist (CHT), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or other qualified certification, under the direction and supervision of the Wound Care Manager, Medical Director, and Safety Director, provides staffing support for the Wound Care Clinic, provides clinical support to patients during hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), and administers HBOT to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician.

The patient population in this clinic is complex with generally high-acuity. Many patients need assistance to ambulate or are wheelchair/stretcher-bound. Care is individualized and specialized. The Wound Care Clinic patients are seen routinely; therefore, the candidate works to build respectful relationships with patients and their caregivers. The clinic takes great pride in patient care and our patient satisfaction scores are consistently in the 96-98th percentile.

Responsibilities*

There are three main responsibilities associated with this position.

(1) Wound Care Clinic Staffing - 50%. Provides direct care to patients in the Wound Care Clinic. Assists provider, nursing staff, and other clinical resource staff with complex wound management. The candidate provides clinical assistance by taking vital signs, preparing specimens, dressing wounds, or scribing. Assists the provider with wound debridement, procedures, and supports patients where needed. Contributes to the development and implementation of nursing protocols to improve patient care.

(2) Hyperbaric Chamber Attendant – 40%. (This treatment provides high-dose oxygen inhalation therapy in which a patient breathes pure oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber.) Provides assistance to patients in the chamber during Hyperbaric Oxygen treatments. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of chamber equipment, patient safety procedures, patient selection and treatment protocols. Demonstrates ability to respond to complications of therapy.

(3) Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Operator – 10%. Safely operates the chamber, demonstrates in-depth knowledge of chamber equipment, patient safety procedures, patient selection and treatment protocols.

The candidate provides a high quality and safe standard for patient care. This role will require continuous and efficient communication to physicians, other HBOT staff, and Wound Clinic staff. Collaborates with other health team members and associated resource persons to provide continuity of care. Candidate will participate in department meetings including Everyday Lean Idea huddles. The candidate will attend and participate in conferences and continuing education/staff development programs to maintain knowledge of current literature and practices.

Required Qualifications*

High School diploma or general education degree (GED)

Candidate should be certified and/or licensed in one of the following vocations or hold a diploma from an accredited institution in one of the following professions to meet the minimum education requirements. Be certified and/or licensed in one of the following vocations:

    • Diver Medic
    • Medical Services Specialist
    • Life Support Technician
    • EMT
    • Paramedic
    • LPN, or LVN
    • Current Diving Medical Technician (DMT)
    • Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT)
  • Willingness to work together with a multidisciplinary staff to achieve exceptional patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve in a collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with team members.
  • Demonstrated accountability to departmental standards.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency using the electronic medical record and Microsoft office products including Excel.

This position requires:

  • movement that includes standing/walking, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring of patients.
  • The hyperbaric chamber is a small confined space with limited means of entry or exit.
  • Certain products are not allowed in the hyperbaric chamber.

In this position, the candidate will be providing care without the use:

  • of hair spray, lotions, perfume, deodorant, aftershave or make-up; without hearing aids, hard contact lenses or glasses made of titanium or magnesium; without wigs, hairpieces, or new nail polish; without electronic devices of any kind; without Velcro, ace wraps, smoking/medication patches.
  • Attends, or provides verification of attendance to, an Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course as approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) post hire. Achieves certification as a Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT) within 1 year of hire.
  • Employer will provide training, however, if employee leaves CWCC prior to 12 months of employment, training must be repaid.
  • Maintains current competencies and mandatory training. Attends mandatory clinic and hospital training programs. Actively participates in clinic and staff meetings.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Good attendance.
  • Minimum of one year wound care management experience in the inpatient or outpatient setting (within the past 4 years).
  • Certified in Wound Care.
  • Completion of a 40-hour introductory Hyperbaric Course.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider course completion.

Work Schedule

  • Ability to flex hours between 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Hours: Four 10 hour shifts per week. Day off varies.
  • Days/Shift: Mon through Fri; hours will be variable
