Overview

The nursing assistant assists in patient care throughout all nursing areas. Duties include assisting patients with their ADL's, transporting patients in various types of equipment and ambulation, documentation of care and treatments done and observes patients for safety and condition change and reports to appropriate staff.

12 Hour Night Shift. Fulltime.

Responsibilities

Delivery of Care:

* Assists patients with ADL's according to hospital procedures, reports all abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse in charge of patient.

* Assists with access, transport and storage of medications, but does not administer medications.

* Follows all established infection control policies, and recognizes role in providing safety to the patient.

* Performs all duties included with job competencies.

* Documents vital signs, weights, activity, intake and outputs, and ADL care given to patient in computer.

* Assists with restocking of rooms and maintain a safe and clean environment.

* Assists with ambulation of patients, and uses assist devices as appropriate to protect patient and staff member.

* Follows compliance requirements and reports any observation of fraud, waste or abuse to their immediate supervisor or Compliance Officer.

Professional Growth:

* Attends appropriate training programs, unit meetings and other mandatory meetings.

* Maintains BCLS certification.

* Seeks to be involved in unit improvements, quality projects, and other enhancements to patient care.

* Demonstrates flexibility in meeting staffing needs of the unit and hospital.

* Completes annual mandatory education.Communication:

* Communicates utilizing the ICARE Standards in all aspects of care and interaction with others.

* Effectively communicates with all team members, physicians, ancillary staff and all customers. Verbal communication is clear and concise, and written communication is legible and done using approved abbreviations.

* Uses Patient/Family Centered approach of care of patient/family.

Clerical

* Orders needed office supplies, or other supplies as needed for the areas.

* Organizes nurses' station to keep neat and well organized.

* Assists with data collection.

Customer Service

* Displays excellent receptionist skills in greeting all customers including both internal and external.

* Answers phone and call light with proper phone etiquette, and sensitivity to the needs of the caller.

* Assists physicians as needed.

* Contacts staff immediately for patient care needs or assists with patient needs.

* Assists with access, transport and storage of medications, but does not administer medications.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

* High school graduate or equivalent preferred

Minimum Work Experience

* Previous hospital or nursing home experience preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications

* Certified nursing assistant at hospital level.

* Basic Life Certified.

* Completion of training in nursing school that covers NA type duties.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

* Basic computer knowledge

* Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.

* Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred.

* Ability to move and lift patients and use appropriate equipment.

* Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.

* Effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written).

* Must be able to type.
