Under the direct supervision of the registered nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) provides quality patient care. Performs supportive nursing care appropriate to the age of patients served; i.e. physical hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, socialization, observation, safety, and emotional and physical comfort needs. Answers call lights, telephones, and relays messages to appropriate personnel. The C.N.A. maintains a safe and clean working environment. The Certified Nursing Assistant must be able to work any shift, Monday through Friday, weekends and holidays. The C.N.A. coordinates patient-centered care meeting both the psychological and physical needs of the patients and ensures optimal care and service in accordance with physician orders, The Joint Commission, nursing and departmental guidelines. The Certified Nursing Assistant fulfills these duties to ensure continuity and quality of care which fosters the best interest and well being of all patients and their families
Education:
Graduate from an accredited school or program for certified nursing assistants registered with the Mississippi State Board of Nursing. Current BLS is required. If not current, BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Experience:
Previous experience in Medical/Surgical unit is preferred. Requirements will include successful completion of orientation checklist and skills/credentials/competency requirements of specific unit.
Skills:
Requires ability to read and write legibly and carry out direction promptly and accurately. Must exhibit effective communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Requires the ability to respond quickly and calmly under stressful or emergency situations.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients and/or equipment, manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive period of time. May require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. May require frequent bending, squatting and kneeling. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
