Job Description

Job Title: Store Manager

Division: Appalachian Outfitters/Kendall Cliffs

Reports To: General Manager / Owners

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Assists General Manager and or owners with day to day operation of the store(s) and climbing gym. Keeps staff engaged and focused on providing exceptional customer service and works with the floor manager(s) to ensure that the store sales floor is clean, organized, and well stocked and that the gym is safe and that all paperwork in order by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Opens and closes the store on time.*

2. Works with floor manager(s) to keep floor sales staff and gym staff actively engaged throughout their shift, cleaning and restocking.*

3. Trains new hires on registers, procedures, policies, and product within 30 days.*

4. Maintains the new hire training checklist in conjunction with the floor manager(s).*

5. Builds and maintains an understanding of the stores products and price information to assist with customer purchases.*

6. Receives payments from customers, operate cash register and credit card machine and returns appropriate change as needed.*

7. Ensures that restocked items are properly rotated and priced, and expiration dates are checked.*

8. Monitors employee breaks and lunches so proper floor staffing is maintained.*

9. Works with floor manager(s) to be sure all necessary signage is created for events and sales and that updates to street sign and white board are done in a timely manner.*

10. Keeps staff aware of active promotions and discounts.*

11. Verifies correct change is in register drawers. Maintains changes boxes. May obtain change from bank as necessary.*

12. Places and following up on special orders.*

13. Follows up with key holders that call list is updated.*

14. Verifies all returns and warranties fall within policies.*

15. Involves owners and or the general manager in next line of decisions.*

16. Verifies all transfers are completed as necessary.*

17. Coaches employees as necessary to keep disciplinary issues from escalating.*

18. Documents any disciplinary actions.*

19. Follows up on climbing gym groups and lesson scheduling to verify emails are answered, voice mail is checked, deposits are paid, confirmations are sent out and received, necessary staff and volunteer belayers are scheduled.*

20. Verifies that waivers are properly entered in a timely manner, belay cards are properly issued and worn by guests, lessons are properly recorded and signed off on, all inspection and maintenance logs are up to date.*

21. Recruits and maintains list of volunteer belayers, schedules volunteer belay training class, verifies that staff and all volunteers have current CPR/First Aid certifications, and verifies that all staff are familiar with emergency response protocols.*

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises up to 20 employees in the Store and Climbing Gym as directed by the General Manager or owners. Successful candidate should anticipate spending 15 to 20 hours per week monitoring the climbing gym. Provides back up coverage for the General Manager when the G.M. is not present or on vacation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, internet software, and Microsoft Outlook.

Education/Experience:

Associate degree or higher and two to four years related retail management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:

· Ability to work with customers and vendors under a variety of circumstances to resolves issues while maintaining a positive attitude

· Ability to motivate subordinates and clearly explain company expectations and goals

· Ability to discipline subordinates in a respectful constructive manner to prevent minor behavior issues from escalation
