Job Overview:

The Data Steward position is part of the Customer Data Governance team. They will be responsible for defining, maintaining and creating new master data elements and the data management policies for Macy’s Inc. In their role, Data Steward will ensure the data management policies and procedures are implemented and complied. In addition, the Steward will create business process flows and data mapping review requests and recommend authorizing access to the data elements for which they are assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

• Overall responsibility for defining and maintaining master data definitions and represents requirements of the specific stakeholders and projects.
• Create business process flows and data mapping.
• Define the master data required for a process/system to perform a task and identifies the most appropriate source of data.
• Ensure compliance to data governance policies.
• Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, understood, and complied with.
• Provide guidance, review and resolve data issues, and where appropriate, escalates to the Director and VP of Data Governance.
• Collaborate with data custodians (tech partners) as necessary to ensure business requirements are met.
• Coordinate periodic data quality audits and data cleansing efforts.
• Recommend changes to data governance policies and procedures when and where necessary to improve data governance quality.
• Influence decisions with technical partners, internal teams, senior management, and external partners.
• Develop high-performing team members and enhance department effectiveness through coaching and mentoring, in addition to building partner relationships internally and externally.
• Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
• 3 - 5 years professional experience in retail, marketing and/or analytics.
• Experience developing business process flows, data standards and definitions.
• Experience handling sensitive data (PCI and PII).

Communication Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
• Able to read, write, and interpret complex documents.
• Must be able to effectively interact with, present information to, and respond to questions from all levels of the organization and partners.
• Must demonstrate an energetic and positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills.

Reasoning Ability:

• Comfortable with ambiguity, creative thinking and leading change.
• Very strong analysis/troubleshooting skills, and strong partnering/relationship building skills.
• Ability to consider options and make business decisions (e.g. selection of tools/methodologies for projects).

Physical Demands:

• Regular - walking, standing, sitting, hearing, seeing, talking, using hand and fingers for writing, typing and using a mouse, moving/lifting items under 10 pounds.
• Occasional - stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• May also involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Other Skills:

• Ability to implement policies and procedures to ensure data is both acceptable and accurate in a complex environment.
• Must be able to challenge status-quo through identification of key business requirements and addressing through innovative data management techniques.
• Must be able to identify trends and opportunities through analytical approaches.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
