McWilliams Forge Company, in Rockaway, NJ, is a well-established leader in the manufacture of precision forged products for the aerospace industry. The company is a division of Precision Castparts Corp. (PCP) a public company and operates as a standalone entity. We are seeking a motivated engineering co-op student for a paid 6 month assignment to work in our Metallurgical Lab/Engineering Dept. Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with managers and plant personnel. This position will report to the Lab Supervisor.

JOB SUMMARY:

Statistical Projects: Use accumulated test data to establish process capability/conformance and ensure potential test reduction by our customers.

• Statistical Database System Upgrade-- Facilitate transition from SQC pack to Minitab for compiling tensile data
• Compile tensile test data from Fortis and enter into statistical database for jobs to be considered for submittal on statistical sampling.
• Create X-bar and Range charts, establish upper and lower control limits from data, and confirm process capability.
• Compile annual reports per customer requirements and streamline process.
• Confirm compliance with periodic testing requirements and compile periodic testing reports in statistical database. Establish system for identifying jobs that will require periodic testing.

Customer Submittals: Help streamline submittal process to ensure faster disposition of nonconforming materials.

• Develop a standard submittal format based on customer MRB requirements.
• Investigate reason for nonconforming materials. Work with quality department, engineering, and metallurgy to put together cause/corrective action section of reports.

Other Tasks: Assist with daily production requirements.

• Assist lab personnel with all aspects of metallography, including macro/micro specimen preparation, raw material evaluation and Non Destructive Testing (NDT) micro evaluation.
• Assist with organizing test material remnant storage, based on customer requirements.
• Provide additional help in lab, as required, defined by Lab Supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be US Citizen
• In pursuit of an engineering / material science degree
• Must have the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Must have good written and verbal skills
• Must possess basic computer skills (Windows/Outlook/Excel)
• Able to lift up to 50lbs.
