On behalf of American Institutes for Research (AIR), Headway Workforce Solutions is seeking Part-Time Child Assessment Data Collectors to work on the Early Language and Literacy Home Visiting Study in Bloomfield, PA. Part-Time Child Assessment Data Collectors will conduct standardized assessments to measure toddlers’ language skills and observe interactions between parents and children.

American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a behavioral and social science research organization. AIR’s overriding goal is to use the best science available to bring the most effective ideas and approaches to enhancing everyday life.

Individuals who have experience working with young children are encouraged to apply, especially retired teachers and substitute teachers. Pay for this position begins at $17 per hour but will vary based on experience. Mileage will be reimbursed at $.545 per mile.


As a Part-Time Data Collector, you will…
  • Conduct standardized individual child assessments
  • Work on average 10- 20 hours per from August 2018 through September 2018 and then a second wave in the Spring
  • Work a flexible schedule that may include daytime and evening weekday and weekend shifts
  • Be assigned an android tablet that you must be responsible for
  • Maintain organized computer-based files and records
  • Complete and return all assignments and assessment data according to required deadlines
  • Strictly adhere to AIR’s procedures to protect the privacy of children and families
  • Maintain contact with AIR’s data collection coordinator and other project team members in a timely and professional manner

Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Bachelors’ Degree in education, occupational therapy, child development, psychology, counseling, social work or related field; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism in interactions with families
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comfort with technology and computers
  • Must we willing to enter the homes of families from various racial/ethnic backgrounds and income levels in order to conduct child assessment sessions
  • Ability to work well independently and under the direction of project coordinators
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 120 miles and/or 120 minutes, willingness to stay in a hotel overnight is a plus
  • Experience administering the Preschool Language Scale assessment or using progress monitoring tools is a plus
  • Have a valid US driver’s license, insurance and personal reliable transportation to be used for business purposes
  • Pass required background check prior to the start of training

Training and Schedule

There will be a mandatory training scheduled for August 6th– August 13th 2018 and will be conducted remotely through pre-recorded webinars. An in-person certification test will also be conducted in Harrisburg, in which candidates will be observed while assessing one or more children.  Further employment is contingent upon successful completion of training and passing a certification test.


Physical Requirements
  • Must be physically able to carry the necessary equipment, including a laptop computer. The total weight of required equipment for a child/caregiver interview visit is approximately 20 pounds
  • Must be physically able to go up and down stairs with equipment if necessary
  • Must be physically able to perform the required child assessments, including sitting on the floor to perform assessment activities with young children
