About this job

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor HVDC transmission line running CT to NY (Long Island)
  • Monitor power schedules, block converts, personnel at converter stations
  • Respond to alarms
  • Data entry of station data, inspection forms and log books
  • Operations and maintenance

Additional Information:

  • Working 12-hour shifts which will be rotated between day (0700-1900 hours) and night (1900-0700 hours), including rotation through day and night shifts on weekends and holidays
  • The Cross-Sound Cable Company owns, operates and maintains a High Voltage Direct Current Electric Transmission line that consists of two HVDC Light Converter Terminals with an interconnecting set of DC submarine cables
  • The converter stations are operated and monitored remotely from the Operations Rooms located in Marlborough, MA via high speed communications and Remote Operator Workstations (ROWS)
  • Scheduling of power transfers across the cable are dispatched on an hourly basis by ISO-New England and implemented by the 24/7 Operator

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Technology or Electromechanical Engineering
  • Relevant Co-Op experience is a plus
  • Advanced computer skills with spreadsheets, word processing, and email applications
  • Experience with AutoCAD or analytical software package is a plus
  • Any type of experience or exposure to HVDC or SCADA
  • Attention to detail - engineers will be monitoring the HVDC system for the whole transmission line and need to monitor multiple screens
  • Strong communication skills - engineers are working out of the operations room in Marlborough and communicating with field personnel in NY and CT as well as vendors
