Job Description

Position Summary

The Position of ED/BH Security Officer will consist of: Performing general security work to ensure employee, patient and public safety as well as property protection and loss prevention. Duties include frequent patrols of facility and grounds, enforcement of security policies and procedures and maintaining general order.

Qualifications

  • AA Degree
  • Equivalent Combination of education and direct work and experience in Security or technology industry
Required

  • Valid Drivers License
  • WA Guard Card
  • Obtain CPI certification within 90 days of hire
  • Maintain CPI certification throughout employment
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR/AED throughout employment
  • Security and Safety Principles
  • Ability to write clear and accurate incident reports and PC Skills
  • Ability to understand and apply security protocol, respond to alarms and emergency situations and interact with medical center staff at all levels.
  • Physically perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays; on-call as required.
  • May be exposed to risk of injury, assaults, and hazards originating from aggressive behavior.

Job Functions

Conducts Patrols

  • Performs routine patrols of buildings, garages and grounds of establishment; examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure. Identifies and reports safety hazards.
  • Physically observes and uses security equipment (Video system) to detect inappropriate or illegal behaviors.
  • Compliance and maintenance of fire extinguishers and Code Blue (emergency call boxes)
Enforces Client Policies

  • Monitors and enforces policies such as identification badging, access, loitering, no smoking, parking, forbidden articles, weapons, etc.
  • Liaisons with Funeral Homes and Coroner’s Office authorizing the release of deceased and their belongings in accordance with country regulations and organizational policies.
Documents Activities

  • Records and reports data, such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of equipment.
  • Completes incident and unusual occurrence reports when appropriate and maintains a daily security log of activities
Security Emergency Response

  • Respond to emergency Codes per existing procedures including Code Grey, Red, Blue, Triage, Orange, and Amber Alert.
  • Liaisons with law enforcement, fire department, emergency medical services, etc. to ensure threats are identified and appropriately communicated.
  • Provides alarm response to panic buttons, off-site building burglar alarms and elevator alarms.
  • Responds and assist as necessary to individual department standbys. These situations may involve physical intervention to restrict an individual’s freedom of movement.
Loss Prevention and Incident Fact Finding

  • Receives reports and incidents of theft, vehicle damage and other unusual occurrences. Is responsible for accurate documentation of names, descriptions, dates, times, contacts made, agency responding, and other pertinent information necessary to fully document incidents involving staff, patients and visitors.
  • Assists with the physical placement and environmental issues related to high security risk patients.
Emergency Preparedness and response

  • Per assigned roles, responds and performs during specific emergencies and tasks (i.e., fire, bomb threat, chemical, natural disaster, utility, etc.) and assists with hazardous waste management activities.
  • Assists in the establishment of the Hospital Command Center and fulfills role as requested by the Incident Commander.
