Preferred Utilities is a manufacturer and supplier of combustion and fuel oil systems with headquarters in Danbury CT. With over a hundred years as a family run business we offer made in the USA products in all areas of combustion and fuel oil systems.
We are seeking a skilled PLC Engineer to design, program, test and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for custom designed automation projects. As a PLC engineer, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining and optimizing control systems that meet and exceed customer requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, software engineers and proposal engineers to ensure proper implementation and integration of our control system solutions.
What You Will Be Doing
· Design and develop PLC/Loop Controller, systems based on project requirements in a timely manner.
· Program and troubleshoot PLCs and Loop Controllers from various manufacturers (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Modicon (Schneider Electric), Siemens, Preferred Instruments).
· Develop and maintain HMI (Human Machine Interface) terminals for user interaction with controllers.
· Document control system designs and track modifications for future reference.
· Participate in the performance testing, commissioning, and startup of projects.
· Work closely with project managers and proposal engineers to ensure systems are designed and delivered correctly and in a timely manner.
· Familiarity with combustion control systems and concepts (e.g., Burner Management Systems, Drum Level Control, Draft Control, Fuel-Air Ration Control).
· Some travel for meetings and site visits 10%
Basic Requirements
· Bachelor’s / Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or a related field.
· Work experience with PLCs.
· Proficiency in programming PLCs using ladder logic (LL), function block diagrams (FBD), and other applicable programming languages.
· Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP).
· Knowledge of HMI design and programming.
· Familiarity with SCADA systems (e.g., IFIX, Citect, Ignition SCADA).
· Ability to work efficiently in cross functional teams.
· Good communication and documentation skills.
