Job Description
Position Title: Utility Construction Laborer
Reports To: Foreman/Project Manager
Department: Field
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Location: Belleville, MI
Job Summary:
We are looking for utility construction laborers to join our team! As a utility construction laborer, you would be responsible for helping assist the foreman and team with installing and replacing underground utilities. We are specifically interested in those with prior directional drilling/boring experience.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
· Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in a utility installation work environment that requires the use of basic hand tools. These tasks could include but are not limited to:
o Digging/trimming trenches and ditches, backfilling of trenches
o Building/cleaning of manholes
o Replacing concrete, installation and removal of pipe, cleaning of pipes, setting of poles
o Operating and maintaining drilling equipment; conducting measurements to ensure efficiency.
o Installing and removal of conduit and cable, splicing cable
o All work associated with demolition
· Reading and interpreting plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities
· Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed
· Driving various vehicles to job sites, traffic control and flagging
· Utilize hand tools to dig near existing underground utilities
· Assisting the line up crew as well as the welders
· Assisting in repair, maintenance, construction, of gas distribution pipelines
Requirements:
· Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred)
· Satisfactory driving record (MVR check will be conducted prior to hire)
· Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screens in accordance with company policy and DOT regulations
· Ability to pass a pre-employment background screening
· Ability to be a team player
· Dedicated, hard-working and goal focused
· Willing to work overtime and weekends, and work in all weather conditions
· Ability to lift, squat, and stand for long periods of time
Compensation:
· Compensation follows the union scale, currently a total taxable rate of $27.16/hour ($23.16/hour base pay and $4.00/hour vacation pay).
Those with a CDL earn $1.00 over scale on their base pay.
