Genie Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Norfolk, Nebraska.

2 Years of RN - Med Surg Exp
\n \nUnit: Med Surg # Beds: 38 Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 days and nights, must be able to take 6. High turn over on days if you discharge you will get an admit. - Required certifications: BLS. - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Possibly older teens. Adults; Largest nursing specialty- many different Dx- pneumonia, UTI, Dehydration, Influenza, Alcohol withdrawal, respiratory virus, etc. Surgical patients- Ortho (hips, knees, shoulder, ..) General surgeon- appendix, gallbladder, bowel, etc.), spinal surgery (lamis, spinal fusions), Urology - Experience or 'Must have' skills: 1 year of MS experience, bedside shift report. Must be able to take 1:6 ratio. Must have experience with EPIC documentation. Ok with first time travelers. Should have experience with shift they are submitted for (Days vs nights). - Are RNs required to titrate drips?: Yes. - Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Heparin, set rate: Bumex, Lasix. - Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: Cardiac tech 24/7. RN not required to read own strips, will call cardiac tech if telemetry ordered. - Charge Nurse/House Supervisor?: Nursing supervisor 24/7. Dayshift- two charge nurses (do not take patients- second charge rarely does, only if a must). Nightshift- one charge, does not take patients. - Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: 1:8-1:10, able to do accuchecks and vital signs. - RT Equipment: Trachs, Cpap for OSA, Bipap and High Flow- not often. Respiratory Therapy support 24/7" Shifts & Scheduling: No self-scheduling for travel RNs. Blocked scheduling can be accommodated at times. 6-630. - Weekend Requirement: As needed. - Holiday Requirement: As needed. - Is there Call or a Standby requirement?: Yes- just low census/cancelled. - Floating Requirements?: May float to IMCU for MS assignments. - Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided?: Navy Blue. - Unit/Department specific orientation: 1.5 shifts. - Additional Notes: Expectations- teamwork (helping answer call lights and work well with their CNA), bedside shift report, proactive patient rounding.
