Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN) – Early Day Shift
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join a high-acuity unit in a large hospital setting. This role involves caring for a diverse adult patient population with a wide range of medical conditions in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Patient Population
- Chronic conditions: COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD
- GI disorders: Pancreatitis, GI bleed, IBD
- Infections: Pneumonia, Sepsis, UTI, C. diff
- Neurological: Stroke, Dementia, TBI
- Mental health: Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse
Procedures & Care
- Colonoscopy, Bronchoscopy
- Thoracentesis & Paracentesis
- Minor surgeries (lap chole, biopsies, I&D, amputations)
- IV therapy & drip management (Heparin, Insulin)
- Wound care, feeding tubes, chest tubes
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and care planning
- Administer medications and manage IV therapy
- Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes
- Maintain accurate documentation using Epic Systems
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Equipment Used
- Epic Systems (charting)
- Pyxis medication system
- IV pumps, feeding pumps
- Telemetry monitoring
- Accucheck (blood glucose monitoring)
- SCDs (VTE prevention)
Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years acute care experience (Level 1, 2, or tertiary hospital)
- At least 1 year in a 600+ bed facility
- Active RN License (IN State or Compact)
- BLS Certification required
Schedule\nShift: 03:00 AM – 03:00 PM (12-hour early day shift)\nWeekends: 3 weekends every 4 weeks\nPatient Ratio: 1:5–6\nFloating: May float to other medical units as needed
