pspanspanspanspanOur Full-Time PCTs typically work three 12-hour rotating shifts each week to cover daylight, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Hours may vary by unit. Candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply./span/span/span/span/p

pspanspanThe Patient Care Technician provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and may be directed by the nurse or physician to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients. PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, IO, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs), clean catch/mini catheter urine collection. In addition, simple dressings, 12 lead EKG, bladder scan, all specimen collections. All competencies must be achieved./span/span/p

lispanspanProvides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living. /span/span/li
lispanspanAssists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. /span/span/li
lispanspanProvides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes inpatient status./span/span/li
lispanspanProvides instruction to patients and their families under the direction of the RN. /span/span/li
lispanspanMay apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints as per physician or hospital protocol./span/span/li
lispanspanStrictly adheres to all policies and procedures relative to patient care and hospital related information. /span/span/li
lispanspanComplies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions. /span/span/li
lispanspanDocuments in the medical record according to established procedures. /span/span/li
lispanspanPerforms assigned work in a timely and productive manner. /span/span/li

lispanspanHigh school diploma or equivalent./span/span/li
lispanspanMust also have either 1 Year of Experience, OR enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, OR completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field./span/span/li
lispanspanSuccessful completion of UPMC patient care technician class/span/span/li
lispanspanSuccessful completion of basic information system training./span/span/li
lispanspanMicrocomputer experience preferred./span/span/li
lispanspanAbility to effectively communicate both orally and in writing./span/span/li
lispanspanEmergency Medical Technician (EMT)or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred./span/span/li
lispanspanAccess to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse./span/span/li
