/ulh3Responsibilities/h3divpThe selected candidate will be responsible for working within a team of scientists and engineers within ASD to install accelerator systems, structures, and components; support startup and checkout of complex electrical and pulsed power systems; and support controls integration and verification activities.nbsp; The work will be located at both North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site for approximately the first two years and then will transition entirely to the Nevada National Security Site.nbsp; The selected candidate will be responsible for integrating into the operations team, including training to become an accelerator operator and part of the accelerator maintenance teams in order to support the U.S. Stockpile Stewardship Program./pp style="margin-left:0in;"stronguKey Responsibilities/u/strong/pulliInstall, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain systems./liliWork as part of a team of engineers, physicists, and technologists from the labs and the NNSS to install and operate Scorpius and possibly Z-pinch Experiment Underground System (ZEUS), high-energy x-ray and neutron generating devices, along with associated diagnostics systems and detector systems./liliCollaborate with outside vendor to operate high voltage pulsers to test and characterize accelerator modules in Area 6 of the NNSS prior to final installation at PULSE./liliExperience in the use of basic and powered hand tools, must have a working knowledge of a variety of laboratory instrumentation such as digitizing storage, DVMs, and oscilloscopes./liliFrequent travel to the NNSS forward areas will be required (approximately 30 miles beyond the Mercury gate)./liliAssist in the preparation of specifications for structures, systems, and equipment./liliPerform technical research and gathers data needed by engineers./liliAssist with detailed review of drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and format suitability./liliFollow checklists for specific equipment-related tasks such as calibration, testing, and operation of equipment or tools needed for the position./li/ul/divh3Qualifications/h3divulliAssociate degree in field related to the position plus at least 2 years’ progressive related experience./liliExperience with vacuum systems, including leak detection techniques, is preferred./liliExperience with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting./liliExperience working in a team environment that includes scientist, engineers, technicians, and designers./liliExperience using standard office software products./liliMust be competent in basic electronic work and optical work including Fiber optics./liliAbility to work underground is required./liliAbility to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks./liliAbility to work well with others, as this position will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations./liliAbility to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team./liliAbility to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures./liliThe primary work location will be in the forward areas at the Nevada National Security Site (forward areas are approximately 90 miles from North Las Vegas) with some work occasionally performed at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The PULSE facility is located in the forward areas of the NNSS./liliWork schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change)./liliLimited travel is required./liliPre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing./liliMust possess a valid driver’s license.nbsp;/li/ulp style="margin-left:0in;"MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
